Primogeniture was never a fast rule in the Bible. Seth, Shem, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Joseph, Judah, Saul, David, Solomon etc, were not eldest sons. This is the case whether or not the father had succeeded to any title or position. Even Jesus, as the son of Joseph and a descendant of King David was not the eldest son of Joseph according to later tradition. Noah too, and Eber, were traditionally younger sons of their fathers. The younger son always seems to get the blessing!
