Ezekiel 47

Post by Ethan »

This chapter is very strange.

Ezekiel 47:8
These waters issue out toward the east country (אל ה גלילה) ( εἰς τὴν Γαλιλαίαν )
* Mark 1:14 - εἰς τὴν Γαλιλαίαν "Into the Galilee"

Why is Γαλιλαία always transliterated "Galilee" in the New Testament
and translated in the Hebrew Bible.

Into the Desert ( על ה ערבה ) (ἐπὶ τὴν Ἀραβίαν )
* Some translation read Arabah or Desert

Waters shall be healed (נרפאו ה מים) (ὑγιάσει τὰ ὕδατα)
* This phrase is used in 2 Kings 2:11 ( רפאתי ל מים( ἴαμαι τὰ ὕδατα )
later in 2 Kings 2:20, it mentions Salt

Ezekiel 47:11
The miry places thereof and the marishes thereof shall not be healed; they shall be given to salt.

Ezekiel 47:10
And shall stand there , fishermen from Ain-Gadin unto Ain-Agalim
to cast forth a drag-net

Mark 1:16 - Fishermen

עין (Αιν) means fountain, maybe related too ἀέναος (Aenaos) "ever-flowing
and πηγή (Pege).

Mark 1:16, they are two-fishermen and Ezekiel 47:10, they are
two obscure place-names.

Simona (Σίμωνα )
Andrew (Ἀνδρέα )

Biblical Simeon is written Συμεων (Sumeon) in the Septuagint
thus Σίμωνα must be a different name.

עגל ( Agalim)
1. Young Cow (δάμαλις )
2. Young Bull, Calf, young shoot (μόσχον)
3. Round (κύκλῳ )
4. Cart, Wagon (ἁμάξα )
5. Eglon ( Οδολλαμ , Εγλωμ )

גדי ( Gadi)
1. kid, young male goat (ἐρίφων )

Ain-Gadin "Goat Fountain"
Ain-Agalim "Bull Fountain"

Only Ain-Gadin appear outside Ezekiel in Joshua 15:62
The Greek version reads 'עין גדי' is Ανκαδης (Fountain of Kedesh)
and עיר־המלח is πόλεις Σαδωμ "City of Sadom" .

Songs 4:11 - Vineyards of Engedi ( ἀμπελῶσιν Εγγαδδι)
- Eggaddi ( GG, NG )

2 Chronicles 20:2
- עין גדי = Ενγαδδι (Engaddi) ( NG)
- Also called חצצון תמר ( Ασασαν θαμαρ ) Tamar

חצצון תמר (Hazezon tamar) "Courtyard of Palm trees" appears in Gen 14:7
- Enmishpat = πηγὴν τῆς κρίσεως (Fountain of Judgement)
also called Καδης ( Kadesh)

Ezekiel 47:19
Tamar even to the waters of strife in Kadesh (Meribah-Kadesh)

Numbers 27:14
water of Meribah-Kadesh in the wilderness of Zin
* צִן (HZIN) - חצצון (HZZIN)

Ezekiel 47:16
חצר ה תיכון - HZR E TICUN "Middle of the Courtyard"
αὐλὴ τοῦ Σαυναν

αὐλὴ - Flute, Courtyard, Sheepfold
Σαυναν ( Saunan) Zin

תִּיכוֹן (Tikon) " Middle"
* μέσος (Mesos)

* Book of Ezekiel suggests that the story of Moses and his wandering took place in the Levant, way up north.

Waters of Meribah means "Rebellious Water" , this is folk-etymology describing a River that flows counter to other rivers.

Orontes
Macedonian settlers in Apamea named it the Axius, after a Macedonian river god. The modern name ‘Āṣī (or Asi) is derived from the ancient Axius. The word coincidentally means "rebel" in Arabic, which folk etymology ascribes to the fact that the river flows from the south to the north unlike the rest of the rivers in the region

Ezekiel 47:8
These waters issue out toward the east-galilee, and go down (Yarad) into Arabah then into the west sea

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nahr_al-Kabir_al-Shamali
* During Ugarit period, the river was known as "Raḥbānu
* Meribah - Rahbanu
* Mouth, south of Latakia

The Phoenician name of the city is Ramitha ( Arimathia?)
also called Leukê Aktê (White-Coast)

Strabo
"It is a city most beautifully built, has a good harbour, and has territory which, besides its other good crops, abounds in wine. Now this city furnishes the most of the wine to the Alexandreians, since the whole of the mountain that lies above the city and is possessed by it is covered with vines almost as far as the summits. And while the summits are at a considerable distance from Lāŏdĭcḗa, sloping up gently and gradually from it, they tower above Apameia, extending up to a perpendicular height."
* Mount Carmel "Mountain covered in vines"

Poetically describing the rising river.

- Ezekiel 47:3-4
1. Water to the Ankles
2. Waters to the Thigh
3. Water to the Loin

In Eze 47:3, the word translated 'ankle, "אפסים" means extremity
but translated ἀφέσεως (Apheseus) "liberty" , but in Micah 5:4
translated Akro (furthest point).

אפסים is a shortened form of ἀκρόπους "Extremity of the Leg"

In Leviticus 14:25, that mentions Thumbs and Toes,
two words are needed to stress these.

בהן יד "Thumbs" "ἄκρον χειρὸς"
בהן רגל "Toes" " ἄκρον ποδὸς" > ἀκρόπους

בהן (Ben) is a name in Joshua 15:6, transliterate Βαιων (Bainw) "little, Small", βάις (Bais) "little branch"
cognates of BN (Son) and BT (Daughter) (Gen 49:22)

Ezekiel 47:16 - coast of Hauran.

This is "Leukê Aktê" (White Coast) known as Ramitha
- חור means ' white, Pale, yellow"

ὠχρόν (Ochron) "Pale white, yellow" = חורן
חור - 'Aurea' ( Gold in Latin)

Hauran is Αυρανίτιδος ( Auranitidos) in the Septuagint

Ἁριμαθαίας : Αυρανίτιδος : Ramitha
* Αυρανίτιδος > Ρντδ > Ρμθ

I have solved the meaning behind התיכון ( Etikun))
because this can be written לתיכון ( Ltikun)

לתיכון ( Ltikun)
> Latakia
> Laodikeia
> Leuke Akte

Then חצר ה תיכון means "Courtyard of Latakia"
named after Laodice, mother of Seleucus Nicator

The River of Latakia, is called "Kabir"
* Ezekiel 1:1 - by the river of Chebar (Χοβαρ )
