Post by Ethan »

Ecclesiastes 1:1
דברי קהלת בן־דוד מלך בירושלם
ῥήματα Ἐκκλησιαστοῦ υἱοῦ Δαυιδ βασιλέως Ισραηλ ἐν Ιερουσαλημ

Ecclesiastes 1:12
אני קהלת הייתי מלך על־ישראל בירושלם
ἐγὼ Ἐκκλησιαστὴς ἐγενόμην βασιλεὺς ἐπὶ Ισραηλ ἐν Ιερουσαλημ

verse 1:1, ' Ecclesiastes son of David'
Hebrew - King of Jerusalem
Greek - King of Israel in Jerusalem

Verse 1:12, 'Ecclesiastes' became the King of Israel in Jerusalem .

Ecclesiastes means 'Assembly' ' ἐκ (ek) + καλέω (kaléō)' , also the Latin word for Church, Ecclesia. however
this word 'קהלת' appears in Deuteronomy 33:4 & Nehemiah 5:7.

Deuteronomy 33:4 - 'congregation of Jacob' , LXX - συναγωγαῖς Ιακωβ " Synagogue of Jacob "
Nehemiah 5:7 - 'Great Assembly ' . LXX - κκλησίαν μεγάλην ' ' Great Ecclesia '

The ecclesia or ekklesia (Greek: ἐκκλησία) was the principal assembly of the democracy of ancient Athens.

In ancient Greece an ekklesiasterion was a building specifically built for the purpose of holding the supreme meetings of the ecclesia. Like many other cities Athens did not have an ekklesiasterion. Instead, the regular meetings of the assembly were held on the Pnyx and two annual meetings took place in the Theater of Dionysus. Around 300 BC all the meetings of the ekklesia were moved to the theater. The meetings of the assembly could attract large audiences: 6,000 citizens might have attended in Athens during the fifth century BC
In ancient Greece the ekklesiasterion was the meeting place of the popular assembly (ekklesia) in a democratic Greek city-state (polis, plural poleis).
