Greek to Hebrew

Post by Ethan »

I have being studying the Hebrew Lexicon [Strong's] and noticed that many words have cognates or roots in the Greek Language and vice-versa.

I also study how Greek words are written in Hebrew, usually involves removing Vowels and guttural Consonants.

Here are some of my transliterations.

Tongue
γλῶσσαν > γλσν > λσν > לָשַׁן [Lashan] لسان [ Lisan ]

Heart
κόλπος > κλπ > לֵב [Leb]
κόλπου > κλπυ > לָבַב [Lebab]
κόλπον > κλπν > قلب [Qalbun ]

Dwell
σκῆνος > σκν > שָׁכַן [Shakan]

Liver
ἥπατος > ἥπτ > כָּבֵד [Kabad] كبد

Sky
σημεῖον > σμῖν > שְׁמַיִן [Shamayin] > שָׁמַיִם [Shamayim]

Unleavened Bread
μάζης > μζη > מַצָּה [Mtsah]

Canaan
χῖονων > χνων > כְּנַעַן [ Knon]

Torch
λαμπάδος > λπάδ >לַפִּיד ['Laped]

Salt
ἁλυκή > λκ > לַח [Lakh] > מֶלַח [Malakh]

Mighty
κύριος > κύρ > גֶּבֶר [Geber]

House
ϝοῖκος > ϝῖκ > בַּיִת [Bayith]

Children
υἱῶν > υν > בֵּן [Ben]

Uncle David
ἀδελφιδός > δφδ > דָּוִד [David]

Servant
ὀπηδός > ὀπδ > עָבַד [abad ]

Memphis
Μέμφις > Μέφ > מֹף "Moph "

This is an example where the M or N is removed when going from Greek > Hebrew ( and Vice-verse), It usually occurs when there is a B/PH present in the word.

The father of Moses, 'Amram' in the Septuagint is named is Αμβραμ [Ambram]. This also occurs in the Masoretic
with M and N interchanging, i.e Eliab > Eliab or Abinadab > Aminadab .

Thus plausible that Amram original name was Αβραμ [Abram ] , from ἁβρά "favorite slave"

The story of Abram begins with him being 'brought out' of 'Chaldea' [slavery] and emigrating into Canaan , the Greek word for an Emigrant is 'περάτῃ [Hebrew] when he settled and became Abraham [εὕρημα] "discover" .

Abraham
εὕρημα > εὕρημ > אַבְרָהָם

Hebrew
ὑπέρ > ὑπρ > עִבְרִ

-Cognates-
ὑπέρ (Uper ) *beyond
ἐπορεύθη (Eporeuthe) *convey, make to go
πορεύω (Poreuw) 'to go' or to 'convoy
πόρος' ( Poros ) 'passing a river,'
πέρα ( Pera ) to a foreign city
πέραν ( Peran) ' on the other side
πρός (Pros) ' on the side of, in the direction of
περάτῃ ( Perate) 'on the opposite side
περατής ( Peraths) 'wanderer, emigrant
περατός ( Peratos) - navigable

Bone
ὀστέον [ Osteon]
עָצַם [ Estem ]
Latin [ Ossum ]

*ost- Proto-Indo-European root meaning "bone."

Gold
חָרוּץ [ Charuwz ]
χρυσός [ Chrysos ]

χρυσ[Krus] > חָרוּץ [Krut]

Money
σήκωμα [ Sekuma] " weight in balance
שֶׁקֶל [ Sheqel ] ' measurement, unit of money

רָכַל [Rakel] " trader " = ῥωποπωλέω [Ropopole ] "deal in small wares" , between Latin-Greek-Hebrew, P and K
interchange, so RKL > RPL " Rubles & Rupees "

סָחַר [Cacher ] " trafficker" = ἀγορά [Agora] and ἀγορασμός [Agorasmos ] "Purchaser" . Cacher > Cashier .

מָלַךְ [ MLK] > "Merchant", the Phoenician King [מָלַךְ ] was a Merchant [ Merx ] , the Merchant God of the Phoenicians was Melqart [ מלךקרת ] also known as Herakles [מלךקרת ]

Mlk'Qrt > Lk'Qrt > Rk'Kls > " Her'kles "
