The Jewish Study Bible is a very good starting point for any serious student

I would strongly recommend the Plaut Commentary and the five volume JPS Commentary.
(I would also encourage you to refer to the collection as the Tanakh rather than the Old Testament.)

The very best book about the elder (the Old) Testament is this one below:

Read it online = The United States and Britain in Prophesy, by H.W. Armstrong

Or you can buy that book for very little = Amazon.com, for $5.99

No book is more enlightening about the Hebrew scriptures than that one.

It would help if you were more specific. It was an evolving theology used by multiple cultures over a wide range of time.

It covers such a wide range, and context is key here. Which part? a specific time period?

Jewish law? customs? practices?

I prefer anthropology to understand the theology
