Workbook, on the popularity of S. as Jewish name
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Salome_(d ... %27%20aunt.
You do know, of course (aaarrrrgggghhh!!!), that the popularity of the name was due to the fondness that people held the memory of Queen Salome Alexandra, or Shlomtzion (Shalom Zion, "peace on Zion"), wife of Alexander Jannaeus, who ruled the country after Jannaeus' death in a peaceful manner. In fact, wasn't Salome one of the most popular of Judean female names in 1st century CE?

I'll see if there is a post here about that. Here it is, behind the radiator:

The illustrious Ben Smith quotes Richard Bauckham, Jesus and the Eyewitnesses, about the popularity of the name Salome among Judeans of that era (and I'm sure Bauckhan also cited his sources).
