The Pete/mountainman/LC proposal includes Constantine lying about Christian origins.
The RE Gmirkin proposal includes Jews returning from Alexandria lying about Torah origins.

RE Gmirkin, on this forum and elsewhere, in part:
"The creation of the fictional biblical foundation story directly followed Plato’s advice at Laws 7.798a-b that for the constitution and laws of a new nation to be successful and last down through time, the citizens must be persuaded “by any means possible” that their laws were ancient, divine, and unchanged since having been given to the original founding generation."

One of my questions:
does RE Gmirkin--or anyone else--think that the Jewish nation began in c. 273-272?

Another question:
does RE Gmirkin--or anyone else--really think that some Jews survive today because of Plato?

As to the neilgodfrey post above, I am not against humanities or arts studies, having been an English major at Brandeis. As for opinions on gun laws that he mentioned (though I have some) I fail to see relevance here.

Stephen, none of your remarks actually addresses Gmirkin's scholarship, his methods, nor his reception among reputable scholars.

I have, in numerous posts, explained why I consider the c.273-272 Torah creation proposal to be false.

You have indeed. But you have yet to address Gmirkin's actual methods of scholarly inquiry and his reception among reputable scholars.StephenGoranson wrote: ↑Sun Jun 18, 2023 2:50 pm I have, in numerous posts, explained why I consider the c.273-272 Torah creation proposal to be false.

That is because I am unfamiliar with the details of his work and unqualified to present an informed opinion on his thesis.neilgodfrey wrote: ↑Thu Jun 15, 2023 11:26 pm I have yet to see you fault or even address Russell's scholarship

What do you all think about this video?

According to the scholar John Mchugh, Jews based part of the creation story of Genesis on Sumerian astral lore while they were in Babylonian captivity (IIRC). I'm sympathetic to Gmirkin's theory but wouldn't this partially negate it? I'm thinking perhaps a proto-Genesis arose around the 6th century BCE and then later during the 3rd century BCE it was polished up in Alexandria by supplementing it with elements from The Timaeus.
