Joan Taylor's mistake about the Herodians

Post by Giuseppe »

The usual historicist mistake. Again.

The Herodians of the Gospel of Mark
Joan E. Taylor
DOI:10.1093/acprof:oso/9780199554485.003.0004

The ‘Herodians’, who appear in the Gospel of Mark, have long been a mysterious group. The exploration of this chapter indicates that they are indeed to be understood as Essenes. Using the evidence of Eusebius and other patristic writers, it is possible to link it with what is stated in Josephus about Menahem the Essene’s prediction of Herod’s rule, which was made on the basis of an interpretation of Gen. 49:10.

Why the Herodians in Mark?

Psalm 2:2
The kings of earth stood together; and princes came together against the Lord, and against his Christ.
