Sixtus or Xystus

Post by andrewcriddle »

It has been suggested that It is suspicious that the name of the 6th bishop of Rome is given as Sixtus .
However the original name seems to have been Xystus
See for example https://www.ccel.org/ccel/wace/biodict. ... 0of%20Rome
(There are some potential problems with the original spelling for some of these sources).
Sixtus seems to be a Latinization of the original Greek name, possibly inspired by him being the 6th bishop.
