Why Did Tatian Think יהי אור Was the Creator Begging for Light?

When I see יהי אור I see 'exists light' or 'light exists.' Not sure I understand what the proper translation of the Hebrew is. Is it a request or a command?

How does "(Let) light exist" relate to begging?

Tatiana apparently read the passage as a plea not a command

A plea such as for that of a prayer? By whom and to whom?
