Did the ancient prophet Ezekiel tell the truth about Russ

What do they believe? What do you think? Talk about religion as it exists today.

Used to pluck tracts from the brochure racks of this Fundamentalist church near my Jr college in 74/75, full of crazy interpretations of "end times prophecy," from Ezekiel and elsewhere, which managed to lasso and tie together a story where it all takes place in the middle east, and will involve Israel, Russia, the European Union, Arab states, and of course ,<arrgghh, etc.>, our imaginary friend the Antichrist, our other imaginary friend the Beast, our other imaginary friend the Whore of Babylon, and oh yeah, our imaginary friend the Dragon.

To identify candidates for these imaginary friends, we do have to use our imagination.

See this post for a fine exposition of this kind of stuff, from Gary Cohen:

In a full-scale nuclear exchange, approximately 91 mln people would be dead in a day or so. Ho-hum.

Caplan draws a comparison to the debate on gun ownership, in which some Americans believe the best way to protect oneself from guns is to have one. That approach becomes very volatile very quickly when dealing with weapons of mass destruction.

“There’s this Cold War mentality of a full-scale nuclear exchange — and that would be with Russia,” Caplan said. “Russia is the only other power on par with the U.S. There’s a kind of escalation that happens where one country invades another, and then threatens another country for offering military aid to the invaded country. Then there are strange movements of nuclear weapons as a signal. This kind of saber rattling is exactly what we see happening in real time right now.”

Approximately 50 people attended the kick off of "Twelve Thousand Bombs," a screening of Smiriti Keshari's 2016 film, "The Bomb." Keshari, on stage, left, answered questions from the audience and a reception followed the event.

(Not to sound petty, but more like "a dozen" by my reckoning.)

Meanwhile, more news that almost no one gives a shit about (until its Too Late):

Nobody wants that, even though it seems we continue to be stuck at 1 minute before midnight on the nuclear "clock" since the 1960s. Its one thing if serious reasonable leaders are in charge of them (however much they may oppose one another's policies), and another if those leaders are psychotic/egomaniac "kings" who will do anything for a $ or imagined revived empires. There I go with imagination again.

Delusionary people in charge, on even one side, almost guarantees that it will happen, especially if the leaders imagine that they can somehow survive in underground bunkers with scientifically selected fertile women to wait out the death and destruction part (yes, I'm drawing on the movie "Dr Strangelove") who can waith out the death and destruction before sending their "people" up to see if safe and clean up the mess in the immediate vicinity of the soon to-be-built mansions of God on earth, before ascending from the ground to the amazement of any who happily happened to be standing by, like king Simon bar Giora in the 1st Judean rebellion. Only he was surrendering, not "triumphing."

The problem with crazy end times Bible interpretations is that folks who have them aren't thinking rationally, they are driven by a need to validate their thinking (simply because they hope to retain some semblance of normalcy if they do, but not thinking of possible and very real consequences). They convince themselves that they are doing God's will by supporting the modern state of Israel, not because of any special love of modern Jews (who they feel are oh so wrong for rejecting Jesus Christ and deserve to burn in hell), but because they actually think that the whole nation will one day serve as a pawn in God's plan for mankind, mass convert to believe in Jesus as Christ, and magically evil powers (always the other side) disappear and God places the rightful heirs to his earth becomes super fruitful.

Imagine that! Now THAT scares me.
