The way of faith

Post by rakovsky »

So how is faith supposed to be achieved normally?

The person hears the good news that God has saved them with the Messianic Jesus' death and resurrection, and the person accepts it. Or he prays about it and "feels it's true in his heart", ie believes it has a moral truth(?), and makes a personal and emotional bond to Jesus. The person sees that the OT predicted that the Messiah would get rejected and pierced in the 1st century, see the implications that the Messiah would rise in three days, and then believe that Jesus' experience was being miraculously predicted by the ancient sages.

The person reads the gospels and they make basic sense and inspire the person. And then there are deductive claims to strengthen faith, like James' conversion after being a skeptic, and the apostles' perseverence in the face of persecution and of being killed.

Also, the person learns about ongoing present day miracles like healings wherein blind people receive sight after Christian prayer. Besides, there is the precedence of the saints, who people look to as inspiring role models because of their virtues, and this attracts them further. They also see how Christianity changes peoples' lives for the better.

So in the end result, the person believes that the gospels' basic story is physically true, he/she forms a personal connection to Jesus and mentally is convinced that the story is true as well.

Is this how it is supposed to work?

... or the person is regularly brought to Church, synagogue, temple, or etc.., by his/her parents.
The person has no questions to ask. The answers are already given by the priest.

Right, so your questions as a child are basic and not very critical and skeptical.
You can ask deep questions, like how do we know God exists, but the thinking is not very critical, so acceptance is easier.
