Re: My thoughts on 1 Corinthians 11.23-28 (for Kunigunde).

Hi Ben Do you regard the parallel in Luke 22 as original to Luke or also probably an interpolation ? Andrew Criddle I think Luke 22.19b-20 is most likely an interpolation, if that is what you mean by the parallel in Luke 22. That is what I meant. I should have been clearer sorry. Andrew Criddle

Re: Pseudo-Hegesippus and the TF

Andrew, Okay. That's one of three points. Do you have an explanation for the other two? And is there a good reason to prefer the theory that Pseudo-Hegesippus would have known Origen's Commnetary on Matthew in Greek or Latin translation over the theory that he would have known Eusebius' work. Isn't...

Re: Archelaus in the Epistula Apostolorum

Even if Archelaus lived into the 20's CE he had been deposed many years before in the reign of Augustus.

Re: Pseudo-Hegesippus and the TF

In this long-dormant thread I had previously posted: Consider the following passage from Pseudo-Hegesippus:: And because it has been proposed by us to reveal the causes, by which the people of the Jews defected from the Roman empire and hastened destruction for themselves, the event indicates that ...

3. It is easier to imagine Paul writing 1 Corinthians 10.15-16 if he is not aware of the tradition embedded in the verses in question. Bernard makes a good point ( http://historical-jesus.info/co1c.html#adb ): Just one chapter before the Last Supper description in the epistle, Paul wrote: 1Co10:15-...

Re: Archelaus in the Epistula Apostolorum

If one had not read Josephus then one might consider that the Archelaus in Matthew 2:22 was the same as the Herod who according to Luke 23 was involved in the trial of Jesus.

Re: Plato and the Creation of the Hebrew Bible

But notice that the very first law from the Cot7 is "Follow God" which is singular. Perhaps they meant a supreme God like Zeus? And the plural gods in #3 pertains to minor gods - as would have also been in the Ugartic pantheon? http://www.bibleinterp.com/articles/MSmith_BiblicalMonotheism...

Re: The Pastorals Are Fake - But What Are Their Influences?

But ... is there any doubt that the Pastorals are fake? Sure if you manage to get this program off the ground, it would be great to see why they are fake, how they are fake. But the texts are fake right? This isn't a point of contention with anyone I hope. On stylistic grounds Titus can hardly be b...

Re: Parallels between the Didache and Paul.

So does 1 Peter 2.13-17 1 Peter was written for the Christians in what is now Asian Turkey. There is no record of persecution by the Roman authorities here, at least up to sometime during the rule of Domitian (81-96). Furthermore, one of the main theme throughout the epistle is submission & obe...
