Re: “Why do you call me good?”

Giuseppe -- FWIW, I've traced this passage to Josephus, Wars... , 2, 2, ending with 7: "...And when Caesar had maturely weighed by himself what both had to allege for themselves, as also had considered of the great burden of the kingdom, and largeness of the revenues, and withal the number of t...

Re: Is Mark a valentinian Gospel?

Stephan -- One thing leads to another. *IF* you agree that the Empty Tomb is one story that crosses over the four Gospels, would you then be willing to make the assertion that Irenaeus was the one who broke the ET story into four parts and placed them into the Gospels? Again, see Turton, http://www....

Dio, Epitome 64: "...Now they would all shout together on one side the name of Vespasian and on the other side that of Vitellius, and they would challenge each other in turn, indulging in abuse or in praise of the one leader or the other. Again one soldier would have a private conversation with...

Stephan -- I'm late in responding but you are to be commended for quoting Numbers 19. Berakoth 28A has the epithet, "Your water is cave water and your ashes are oven ashes". The Purity concerns covered fire as well as water. The fire part has been forgotten (or worse) in the New Religion. CW

Re: Drinking the cup and being baptized with the baptism.

Mark 10: 35 - 40 (RSV): [35] And James and John, the sons of Zeb'edee, came forward to him, and said to him, "Teacher, we want you to do for us whatever we ask of you." [36] And he said to them, "What do you want me to do for you?" [37] And they said to him, "Grant us to sit...

Re: Drinking the cup and being baptized with the baptism.

Wow! "So the winning pitcher Hindley ends the day with nine strikeouts on 98 pitches. His curveball simply riddled batters. Meanwhile, Wilson ran the Option well and ended with 13 Rushes for 158 yards while going 3 for 5 for 138 yards and 2 Touchdowns..." Different games, different results...

Re: Drinking the cup and being baptized with the baptism.

This very curious passage should lead one to wonder what "Baptism" means in the first place. What... "Paul" cannot remember who he baptized, given that there were so few of them? Verse 15 sticks out like a sore thumb. It is Addition for the purpose of explaining what was "r...

Re: Drinking the cup and being baptized with the baptism.

Hello Ben -- 1 Corinthians 1: 14 - 16 (RSV): [14] I am thankful that I baptized none of you except Crispus and Ga'ius; [15] lest any one should say that you were baptized in my name. [16] (I did baptize also the household of Steph'anas. Beyond that, I do not know whether I baptized any one else.) Th...

Re: Papyrus Vindobonensis 2325.

JW -- Nice Post! I was getting ready to Post on the "Granularity" of the Chiasms and what is allowed to get through into the Document. You are bringing some good knowledge here. "But after I am raised up, I will go before you to Galilee." What does this verse show? The first part...

Re: Papyrus Vindobonensis 2325.

http://www.michaelturton.com/Mark/GMark14.html : " 28: But after I am raised up, I will go before you to Galilee." v28: This prediction of an appearance in Galilee is a strong indicator that the current ending of Mark is truncated. v28: Most exegetes see this verse and Mk 16:7 as having a ...
