Rhetorical Analysis of Galatians

Just for the hell of it, and because I already had this in a spreadsheet: Betz [/b] Brinsmead [/b] Kennedy [/b] Standaert [/b] Hall [/b] Smit [/b] Longenecker [/b] Hester [/b] Russell [/b] 1.1-5: epistolary prescript 1.1-5: epistolary prescript 1.1-5: salutation 1.1-5: intro-duction épistolaire 1.1-...

Re: Chimpanzees Believe in God?

Chimps believe in evolution. The chimps I hang out with at this bar called "The Zoo" bristle at any suggestion that Humans & Simians share common ancestors. When it is brought up, they rip your face off. Actually, what the sticks they throw at the tree hollow signifies is t...

Re: A few questions re. the mainstream view of the Epistles

I'll simply add that I think that Josephus was pretty sure that the temple would be rebuilt, perhaps in his lifetime, under Roman oversight. There were still many Herodian princes laying about to tap if a king or tetrarch were required.

Re: A few questions re. the mainstream view of the Epistles

"An interpolator who was blaming "those Jews" for their dastardliness, suggesting strongly that the interpolator was not a Judean." What about Josephus? He mentions "the Jews" throughout his writings, including in a negative light, e.g., those on Masada: "...the w...

Re: A few questions re. the mainstream view of the Epistles

DCH wrote: "It probably doesn't help to use modern terminology (i.e., "Jews") when interpreting Paul here." Whatever it may mean, it is used in 1 Thess. 2:14 and 2 Cor. 11:24. The point was that the way the passage reads in the original Greek, we could have either 1) A genuine P...

Re: A few questions re. the mainstream view of the Epistles

Giuseppe wrote (regarding the reference in 1 Thess 2:15-16 to "the Jews" killing Jesus): "proto-Catholic anti-Jewish interpolation." But Paul says the same thing about himself in 2 Cor. 11 (at least in regards to the abuse he suffered). Is that also an anti-Jewish interpolation ...

Re: Ehrman's Adoptionist Theory and Christ Mythicism

I found the following on my computer that compares "Jesus Christ" with "Christ Jesus", probably based on the RSV, which follows Nestle-Aland GNT as opposed to the Majority or Byzantine textual reconstructions: Jesus Christ: [/b] Christ Jesus: [/b] Book [/b] JC [/b] CJ [/b] Relati...

Re: Ehrman's Adoptionist Theory and Christ Mythicism

I suspect some of the Pauline pericopes are Jesus ones, or have had Jesus inserted in them, and some are other-Christ ones. In my heady younger daze, I thought it could be the case that when we encounter "Jesus" (without "Christ"), "Christ" (without "Jesus"),...

Re: Bart Ehrman's new book: Jesus Before the Gospels

Could folks please call Zeba (no friend of mine, BTW) by his correct name, Crook, not Cook.

I scares me to think of him C[r]ook[ing] a Zeb[r]a.
