Re: The Disciples - Christ's failures
Jesus ran a very sophisticated outfit in his latter years. Thousands would some to see and hear him. It took a lot of people to organize things and handle logistics, security, food, etc.- think of a traveling evangelist mission. Twelve would have been a minimum, I would think.

Re: Weighing up the evidence for the ‘Historical Jesus’
WHEN 'Iesus' christus' arrived there was one religion of the Jews, founded on practice of 'the Laws of Moses' The Torah, being practiced by all called 'The Nation of Israel'. No. There was not one religion. That is a misunderstanding of Judaism. Judaism was broken up into many versions before the o...

Re: Weighing up the evidence for the ‘Historical Jesus’
Reasonable speculation is all that we can hope for. But one man's "reasonableness" is another man's "outlandisness." And it depends on the ancient sources you accept as being "reasonably" definitive. It should NOT depend on whatever modern "scholar" happens to...

Re: Laying cards on the table...
In my opinion, people have hard time accepting Jesus as being a real person because he was no ordinary man and lived in extraordinary times. Not that he was the son of god or divine or anything like that, but he was a remarkable individual who was very smart, disciplined, and...off a bit- if you kno...

Re: Jesus Studies Historiography
The problem is that some are drawing conclusions far more precise than the source material merits. Can't do that. Well, you can, I suppose. It's your time to waste. It's like dividing 2.0 by 3.0 and expect the answer to be .6666666666, significant out to nine digits, when the correct answer is .66 (...

I am surprised.Peter Kirby wrote:Okay, there are those ideas too.
The strongest hypothesis may be the simplest- Josephus didn't mention Jesus.
I thought you were a reasonable man!

Re: John at SBL in San Diego
As promised.....Hagan "fires of Rome" page 124 "...There is no reason why the disciple who knew Caiaphas and the disciple whom Jesus “loved”–both found in the Book of John–could not be one and the same person. This disciple could have also been the young man who lost his linen during ...

Re: John at SBL in San Diego
One can have a lot of fun speculating on who the author of the Gospel of John was.
When I get to my main computer, I will excerpt a portion of Hagan on the subject.

Re: How mythicists are perceived by students and academics
Okaaaaay. Well, I suggest that you sit down and have a quiet read of Josephus' "Wars of the Jews." Don't try to read too much into it. I would recommend that you just take things at face value as you read and enjoy the story. If you do, I think several issues that you touched on will come ...
