Re: Galatians 1:1-2
All that other stuff about how he was an apostle "not from men nor through man, but through Jesus Christ and God (the) Father, who raised him from the dead," is the redactor trying very hard to make the first Paul into a good Christ mystic like himself. I agree; but it seems like the reda...

Re: Paul in Raglan Scale?
I find the English versions of Galatians1:1 ambiguous ESV: Paul, an apostle— not from men nor through man, but through Jesus Christ and God the Father, who raised 'him' from the dead— 2 and all the brothers who are with me It would be interesting to see the original Greek interpreted. Personally I ...

Re: Inquiry regarding the Christ hymn of Philippians 2.6-11.
I admit the idea that Jews have always had these 'nutty' mystical interpretations of scripture is a bridge too far for him. I changed this post to respond to SH's statement above, simply because there can be more substance to it (i.e., my response). No, that was NOT my intention. The original 13th ...

Yes, Ambrosiaster, Commentaries on Romans and 1-2 Corinthians (Ancient Christian Texts, edited & translated by Gerald L Bray, 2009) http://www.ivpress.com/cgi-ivpress/book.pl/code=2903 Checking an academic library catalogue (Ohiolink), it seems that besides the above volume, the same publisher (...

Re: Inquiry regarding the Christ hymn of Philippians 2.6-11.
I think this cements that Paul is talking about 'the name of yhwh' and 'ish adonai' 'Know that the existence of all things is in the computation [heshbon], and the existence of the computation is in him, blessed be he, and therefore it is called heshbon and the existence of the computation is in hi...

Re: Inquiry regarding the Christ hymn of Philippians 2.6-11.
It's one of the silly stories in the "Toledot Jeschu" ("History of Jesus"). See G R S Mead, Did Jesus live 100 BC? (1903) page 261ff.Peter Kirby wrote:What is the story being mentioned here, BTW? I'm not sure.the silly story of Jesus in the Jewish temple learning the divine name

Re: And there was no more sea
As is well known, "sea" is a half letter: in English it is pronounced both as "ess" and "kay".

Re: the Gospel of Luke (origins)
I do not think it is very likely that the construction colored blue indicates that Luke found Acts already composed in the Hebrew language and translated it as well. The idea that Acts was written in Hebrew (and may have been original) comes from Epiphanius. All I can say is that 2nd century CE Chr...

Re: the Gospel of Luke (origins)
(This is not really a reply to you, Ben.) ... Doubtless, therefore, Stephan means Clement of Alexandria, concerning whom Eusebius reports as follows in History of the Church 6.14.2: Και την προς Εβραιους δε επιστολην Παυλου μεν ειναι φησιν, γεγραφθαι δε Εβραιοις Εβραικη φωνη, Λουκαν δε φιλοτιμως αυ...
