Re: Marcionites and Clement's Alexandrian Community

If you did any research on the subject you'd know that yes, some of the horse culture Steppe peoples did have women fighting alongside men That's not the point. People read things as if they were portals to another dimension. Like because Tertullian says this or that "it must be true." Cl...

Re: Marcionites and Clement's Alexandrian Community

The myth of the Sarmatian women. If you did any research on the subject you'd know that yes, some of the horse culture Steppe peoples did have women fighting alongside men. And the Greeks encountered them. Graves have been found with women (fully clothed like typical steppe people) having some battl...

Re: Marcionites and Clement's Alexandrian Community

Encratite teachings were common in early Christianity (e.g., Act 24:25, 1 Corinthians 9:25, Galatians 5:23, Titus 1:8, 2 Peter 1:6; and against it's opposite in 1 Corinthians 7:5, 9 and 2 Timothy 3:3). What varied were the justifications. In practice there were no doubt among the wandering preachers...

Re: What is the history of claims that Christians' accounts about Jesus were accurate?

The Marcionites denied any gospel was written by an eyewitness. The ball got rolling with Paul. It's hard to know who exactly was a "Marcionite" as the views of identified Marcionites are wide ranging. My guess is a Marcionite was someone who held only to the gospel of Paul Not correct. I...

Re: My Wildly Atheistic Conspiracy Theory Concerning Base Paul in 1 Corinthians

I seriously doubt the apology is earlier than the 4th century. These apologies make zero sense to have been written before Christianity was seriously vying for official recognition, and before they had a champion emperor so that they could make prior emperors look bad. (Personal opinion) I would rea...

Re: My Wildly Atheistic Conspiracy Theory Concerning Base Paul in 1 Corinthians

Well, a cursory look shows that verse 1:26 is not in the Marcionite, nor were verses 3:12-15, nor verses 4:1-4. So, you are dead in the water there. Unless you can explain how these are original, then missing in the Marcionite version (which is intermediate) and reappearing magically in the Catholi...

Re: Born of the womb before sun and moon

We should also add Revelation chapter 12 to this discussion. It's a very astrological birth of Jesus story with the sun and moon featured.

Re: Presumptions of reader knowledge in Mark.

How can Mark 3:17 mention the “sons of thunder” without knowing Luke 9:52-56 ? https://earlywritings.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=10572 I would caution against this conclusion. Or rather, against this conclusion beyond the authorship of the apostle list in verse 3:16-19. The naming of the twel...
