Re: Mark 16:9-20 as Forgery or Fabrication by Richard Carrie

GMatthew follows GMark very closely to 16:8 and than abruptly does not follow the LE at all. GLuke also follows GMark closely (not as closely) to 16:8 and than abruptly stops following closely but does have some good parallels and general following. The point in favor of 16:8 as the ending is the r...

Re: Irenaeus Judas and Acts

Acts of Thomas 33: 33 And when that serpent had spoken these things in the hearing of all the people, the apostle lifted up his voice on high and said: Cease thou henceforth, O most shameless one, and be put to confusion and die wholly, for the end of thy destruction is come, and dare not to tell of...

Re: Isidore of Pelusium

While reading something online that argues for a Hebrew primacy of the NT I noticed this interesting reference to a letter of Isidore of Pelusium (whom I'd never heard of before): "'The Greeks…despise the divine scripture as barbarous language, and composed of foreign sounding words, abandonin...

Re: Irenaeus Judas and Acts

What is our first attestation for Acts 1.18-19, anyway? Apostolic Constitutions 7.1.2 has a reference to the bursting open and the bowels gushing out.

Re: Irenaeus Judas and Acts

Irenaeus quotes from Acts 1:16-20 in Against Heresies Book III The Apostle Peter, therefore, after the resurrection of the Lord, and His assumption into the heavens, being desirous of filling up the number of the twelve apostles, and in electing into the place of Judas any substitute who should be ...

Re: Carrier proposes the NT Jesus based on Philo's Jesus ang

Is corruption the right word? Aren't we talking about an interpretation or an intended interpretation? or a theological elaboration? I believe Andrew is suggesting that the actual text once had two crowns, whereas the current text does not, in which case "corruption" is indeed the correct...

Re: Carrier proposes the NT Jesus based on Philo's Jesus ang

What I think Philo is arguing here is the following. a/ When in Gen 2:8 the Paradise in Eden is described as κατὰ ἀνατολάς this is not talking about the Geographical East but about the heavenly light the divine logos. b/ This interpretation of Genesis 2:8 is corroborated by the use of ἀνατολή in Ze...

Re: Carrier proposes the NT Jesus based on Philo's Jesus ang

Margaret Barker is another scholar that argues the identity Joshua HP=Anatole. .... Margaret Barker (arguing the link Anatolè=Jesus, too) wouldn't be a scholar, too, according to you words. Could I have the reference? Thanks. M. Barker, “The Two Figures in Zechariah,” HeyJ 18 (1977). And this . Tha...

Re: Carrier proposes the NT Jesus based on Philo's Jesus ang

Are you sure you are reading Philo carefully enough? You are right. I did not. But "Solomon', as the believed author of the proverb, solidifies my case.... It also solidifies your methodology: make pronouncements (at odds with uniform scholarly opinion, I might add) about Philo's usage of word...
