Re: Gospels as "euhemerized" stories about Jesus?
Now then, if you want to turn euhemerism on its head by advocating a 'reverse euhemerism' you are up against "modern academic literature" OK, that's fine. You are going to need some strong arguments - which I have not seen coming from any mythicists that are seeking to support a non-stand...

Re: Gospels as "euhemerized" stories about Jesus?
Maybe I'm dense, but according to the definition Maryhelena keeps linking to, Christianity fits the definition precisely if the mythicist hypothesis is correct. In other words, second-century Christianity treats mythical accounts (the heavenly Christ of the Pauline epistles) as a reflection of hist...

Re: Gospels as "euhemerized" stories about Jesus?
In fact, looking deeper into this, the entry cited by maryhelena does not support her conclusion and, it would appear, the pulled out phrase " oth types of euhemerization are made up yet are to some degree historically factual," is not a reference to historical events or people being myth...

Re: Gospels as "euhemerized" stories about Jesus?
Encyclopedia of Religion Chinese Religion: Mythic Themes In this sense, also, it may be questioned whether the oft-repeated claim that Chinese texts represent a curious instance of the reverse euhemerization of earlier mythic stories has any real significance. If reverse euhemerization refers to th...

Re: What happened to Goulder's Lectionary Thesis?
Does anyone know the reasons Goulder's lectionary theory of the Gospels was not widely accepted? What were the arguments against? Maybe the books quoted below might be of some help....from Mark Goodacre's NT blog. Kirk on the Goulder volume One of the new RBL reviews (see below) is Alan Kirk's of T...

Re: Josephus' youth - model for Jesus/JtB stories?
And the Josephan writer is offering cold hard facts on Jewish history? If Clarke Owens is relying on the face value of Josephan history - he has built up, created, his own road-block to advancing research into early christian origins. Why? The Josephan writer is not just a historian. That writer is...

Re: Josephus' youth - model for Jesus/JtB stories?
Great, really great. Can't wait for some literary critic to produce a book detailing how the gospel writers were motivated by Jewish history to create their JC story. Not one event in history, not cherry-picking 70 c.e. - a historical canvas, a panorama of Jewish history. Ah, but for that they need...

Re: Josephus' youth - model for Jesus/JtB stories?
Yes, the gospels are a literary creation. A literary creation that uses mythology, theology, allegory, prophetic interpretations, prophetic chronology, OT midrash etc. I'm not suggesting otherwise... The literary critical exercise of Owens, and that I am agreeing with, is more than identification o...

Re: Josephus' youth - model for Jesus/JtB stories?
So, then, if the persecution stories in Acts is a later fiction backdated prior to 70 c.e. - are we not then dealing with a pre 70 c.e. 'Paul' and a post 70 c.e. 'Paul'? The later activities of post 70 c.e. 'Paul' backdated to a "Paul' that did not experience the persecution stories? i.e. an e...
