Re: No Christology in the Q community
IF for example the Q community believed that Jesus was only revealed as Messiah at his resurrection, then their account of the pre-resurrection sayings of Jesus probably would not involve Jesus claiming to be the Messiah. As a possible parallel, assuming the same author of Luke and Acts, there is m...

Re: No Christology in the Q community
To Michael BG, "if we assume" "it is possible" "I suppose it is possible". Sounds like unfounded assumptions. According to most Q scholars there are three layers in the Q material. How long would it take for each layer to develop and if we are looking at about 60 CE th...

No Christology in the Q community
Recently I read in H E Todt’s the Son of Man in the Synoptic Tradition , “The title of Messiah does not occur in the Q material” (p 302). What does this mean for the development of beliefs about Jesus? If we assume that Jesus talked of a heavenly Son of Man who was coming soon, then it is possible I...

Re: Romans 1:1-5
Stuart, I found some of your ‘assessment’ interesting, especially the idea that it is unlikely that Paul would write “gospel of God”. However it also is used at Roms 15:16, 2 Cor. 11:7, I Thess 1:5, 2:2, 2:8 and 2:9. I still think ‘adoptionism’ is early and this is stage one, Jesus appointed Son of ...

Re: Romans 1:1-5
Apparently, that would be correct if the the case for ὁρισθέντος would be accusative, but it is in genitive case. My info comes from https://www.blueletterbible.org/lang/lexicon/lexicon.cfm?Strongs=G3724&t=KJV .... In the link it doesn’t state it is in genitive case, but even if it was I don’t ...

Re: Romans 1:1-5
“Marked out” would imply that God decided before Jesus was crucified or maybe before he was born that he would resurrect Jesus when he died. The King James Version, the American Standard Version and the English Standard Version have “declared”, which does not imply this. ὁρισθέντος can be also tran...

Re: Romans 1:1-5
τοῦ ὁρισθέντος υἱοῦ θεοῦ ἐν δυνάμει κατὰ πνεῦμα ἁγιωσύνης ἐξ ἀναστάσεως νεκρῶν, Ἰησοῦ Χριστοῦ τοῦ κυρίου ἡμῶν, “the appointed Son of God in power according to the Spirit of holiness by his resurrection from the dead, Jesus Christ our Lord” I don't think "appointed" is the right translatio...

Re: Romans 1:1-5
ok, aside from a few words that have incidentally crept in, do people think Rom 1:1-5 is more declarative of a resurrected spirit than a resurrected man? When I was a Christian, Roms. 1:4 was one of my favourite Pauline verses. τοῦ ὁρισθέντος υἱοῦ θεοῦ ἐν δυνάμει κατὰ πνεῦμα ἁγιωσύνης ἐξ ἀναστάσεως...

Re: Did Paul write any of 1 Corinthians 5?
I do think that chapters 1-4 of 1 Corinthians represent a separate letter which has been made to appear a part of the larger whole. I don't think it was written by Paul. Much of it speaks of Paul in the third person I can only see ones which are parallels. Are there any non-parallels? That's a pret...

Re: Did Paul write any of 1 Corinthians 5?
Bernard, I am not convinced that 1 Corinthians is made up of three letters. I accept that “I will come to you soon, if the Lord wills” in 1 Cor. 4:19 is a shorter time period than “I will visit you after passing through Macedo'nia, for I intend to pass through Macedo'nia, … But I will stay in Ephesu...
