Re: Bk of Revelation a response to 79CE Mt Vesuvius eruption
When laid out like this, it certainly does appear that references to Jesus were rather clumsily inserted as clauses into an already extant and finished text. Usually a reference to Theos is quickly followed by "... and Jesus!" Rev 1:9 I, John, your brother who share with you [in Jesus] the...

Re: What is going on in Revelation 11:8? Lord crucified in E
James Tabor has a blog positing that "where their/our Lord was crucified" is one of many interpolations into an originally exclusively Jewish text. http://jamestabor.com/2013/10/13/can-a-pre-christian-version-of-the-book-of-revelation-be-recovered/ The implications of this simple textual e...

Re: What is going on in Revelation 11:8? Lord crucified in E
Is Jerusalem referred to as "the spiritual" Sodom and Egypt anywhere else? And why Sodom and Egypt? It's fascinating that modern translations take "the Lord of them" to mean THEIR Lord was crucified. The Egyptians' Lord was crucified? Clearly, modern interpreters don't think &quo...

Re: Late-date advocates for the gospels?
Robert M. Price. In his Pre-Nicene New Testament, he dates all of the gospels in the second century, and John (IIRC) in the second half of the second century.

Re: Jesus' prediction of the destruction of the temple
Well, it's also in Thomas 71 in a much more primitive form ("I will destroy this house and nobody will be able to rebuild it"), so that's a triple independent attestation. You could also make an argument for dissimilarity with regards to a prediction that the Temple would be destroyed in ...

Re: dewitness VS Earl Doherty (was: Historicity of Jesus...)
Romans 1 (RSV) is part of the same anti-Jewish polemic that informs and colors 1 Thessalonians, thus further weakening Doherty's thesis. The Pauline writer here is not referring to "pagans," contrary to widespread apologetics, but to the Jews, those who "suppress the truth," beca...

What is going on in Revelation 11:8? Lord crucified in Egypt
The "two witnesses" prophecy of Revelation 11: "I will give power to the two witnesses of me ... two olive trees and two lamp stands which before the Lord of the earth stand." Then the Beast will come out of the earth and kill them. And their bodies will lie unburied on the stree...

Nonsense.dewitness wrote: Doherty's never on earth Jesus crucified by Archons is extremely easy to debunk because there is no actual evidence for such a teaching in Jesus cult writings.
Paul says Jesus was crucified by the archons.

Re: Jesus' prediction of the destruction of the temple
Quote: Bart D. Ehrman wrote: “We know with relative certainty that Jesus predicted that the Temple was soon to be destroyed by God. Predictions of this sort are contextually credible given what we have learned about other prophets in the days of Jesus. Jesus’ own predictions are independently attes...

Re: dewitness VS Earl Doherty
In fact, Jesus cult writers of antiquity that mention the Pauline Corpus and Jesus completely debunk Doherty's never on earth Archon crucified Jesus. I have already debunked Doherty. 1. In Acts of the Apostles, Jesus was killed by the Jews--Not Archons. 2. In the Gospels and Acts Jesus was killed o...
