Re: The Marcionite epistles to the Corinthians with sources.

Bernard Muller wrote: Ben, I could not find where you justify "Behold, I tell you a mystery. We will not all sleep, but we will not all be changed," (1 Cor 15:51) is in Marcion's 1 Corinthians. That line comes from the Adamantius Dialogue 5.23, 26, which I list as references in the source...

Re: The Jesus Wars Go Thermonuclear

...the problem is that the Ebionites had ''reduced'' Jesus to a mere prophet (very like to modern Jehovah's Witnesses that consider Jesus only a man) therefore they had all the interest in co-opt Jesus by appealing the presumed major Jewishness of his ''brothers''. JW do not think Jesus was a mere ...

Re: The Jesus Wars Go Thermonuclear

Strong's is a bad source. Use better sources. Firstly MrMacSon used Strong and that was why I was using it. Secondly what internet source would you suggest as better? You can copy Unicode text (in Greek) and past it to your browser search window, and follow it with the word "Perseus". The...

Re: Were Christian Documents in the Library of Peace in Rome

Stephan, It seems to me that "libraries" as we think of them (a vast repository of general reading materials that the general public can check out at will) just didn't exist. The closest analogue to general collections might be a University/College library where your ability to check out m...

Re: The History and Origin of the Shem haMephorash

There is a reference to the letters of a sacred name for G-d in an early Jewish magical text, Sepher Ha Razim , which is dated no earlier than 297 CE (per Mordecai Margalioth) to as late as 6th or 7th century CE (per Ithamar Gruenwald): I adjure you by the One who measured the waters in the palm of ...

Re: Why Not Talk About This Instead?

Oh what I'd give to read the works of a modern writer who could express himself like Episcopal Bishop James A Pike did in the 1960s. I remember reading The wilderness revolt; a new view of the life and death of Jesus based on ideas and notes of the late Bishop James A. Pike by his 3rd wife Diane Ken...

Re: Ignatius: Crazy Man or Crazy editors?

I think I figured out why some of the lines between columns were misaligning on me. I re-saved the Win 2003 docs in "docx" format (MS Win 2010), made sure that each chapter section (I guess they could be called "rows") of all four columns had paragraph markers trailing the last l...

Re: Ignatius: Crazy Man or Crazy editors?

Find attached a new version of my line by line Greek-English "analysis" of the shorter and longer forms of the letter of Ignatius to the Trallians. He still seems to speak of a creedal formula to establish that Jesus was in fact born, died and was resurrected, and not simply in appearance....

Re: Genesis 49:10

Epiphanius, writing in the Fourth Century CE, addresses that prophecy to support the idea that the descendants of David continued through the Hasmoneans up until Herod, whom became the first non-Davidic ruler, and thus the harbinger of the Christ (since the scepter is not passed to Herod) Epiphaniu...
