Re: "Q" comes form Marcion

This has been suggested by others. Unfortunately this doesn't get around the problem that Tertullian isn't citing from the Marcionite directly but only repurposing a Greek Adversus Marcionem text in which Irenaeus claims to tackle only the portions of Luke Marcion retained to prove (cough!) that th...

"Q" comes form Marcion

The discussion in one of SA's threads got me thinking. It seems actually that most of "Q" could be the work of Marcion. From BeDuhn: If the Evangelion, rather than Luke, is taken as the point of comparison with Matthew to establish the text of Q, all of these problems evaporate at a stroke...

Re: Meaning of Nazareth?

I'm saying the reading that makes the most sense to me is that Nazarene means "the-God-the-child from the [womb]" or to put it another way, "the Holy One of God". If we read Mark as saying: 23 Just then there was a man in their synagogue with an unclean spirit; and he cried out, ...

No, I believe the intertextual relationships. The intertextual relationships indicate that the Gospel writers relied on the Pauline letters, not the other way around.

Saying that is the intended meaning in Mark.

Re: Meaning of Nazareth?

Thinking about this more, it seems to me that the writer of the Gospel may have used Nazarene as a way to avoid using the term "Christ", at least early on. The writer of the Gospel does a lot to mask the identity of Jesus and to make the true identity of Jesus a mystery. The true identity ...

Re: κολοβοδάκτυλος

This has been a very interesting thread. But Peter's recent post was quite amazing. It leads me to think that Marcion's Antithesis is Q . This would make total sense, because Q is so tightly integrated with Mark. This has always been my criticism. So much of Q fits so perfectly into the dialogue of ...

Re: Sacrifice of Jesus to "purchase" our souls from???

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think orthodox Christians ever said that God had to pay off Satan in order to save our souls. https://www.proquest.com/openview/39a04a52e3e3e3d964e8d408f835a850/1?pq-origsite=gscholar&cbl=18750 Origen of Alexandria (185-254 A.D.) attempted to provide ...
