Re: Passover & the passion narrative before Mark.
In chapter 5 of the EoB there is “The incarnation of the Son of God was intended to bring …” and “the actual form of his passion he willingly embraced” (Staniforth p199). I couldn’t find “incarnation” in the New Testament and I could only find “passion” used in this way at Acts 1:3. incarnation her...

Re: The temple saying & traditions before Mark.
It has been suggested that "not made with hands" in Mark and Paul draws on a tradition earlier than either. https://books.google.co.uk/books?id=Y683AAAAIAAJ&pg=PA186&dq=%22not+made+with+hands%22+gaston+paul+destruction+confused&hl=en&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwjonrf9__DMAhWBuRoKHU...

Re: Lena Einhorn - A Shift In Time
Celsus knows that Jesus was crucified when we declare the Logos to be the Son of God, we do not present to view a pure and holy Logos, but a most degraded man, who was punished by scourging and crucifixion. ( Contra Celsum 2.31 Andrew Criddle ...we are still left with the perplexing question: from ...

Re: Lena Einhorn - A Shift In Time
From here : One obvious issue is that the Egyptian prophet was apparently not crucified. It is not clear why followers of the Egyptian prophet would rapidly come to claim such an end for their leader if it did not actually happen. Andrew Criddle Jesus Barabbas (''Jesus Son of Father'') was apparent...

Subject: Blasphemy & the passion narrative before Mark. This blog post does-marks-jesus-prophesy-the-destruction-of-the-temple may possibly be relevant to Mark's views about Jesus and the temple. Hi again, Andrew. You wrote: Eliav argues that, if read without any reference to either the events ...

Re: Passover & the passion narrative before Mark.
I too have wondered why Jesus' suffering/execution is connected to the Passover sacrifice in the NT, but is connected to the Day of Atonement ritual in Barnabas. The common wisdom is that Barnabas is more primitive than the NT Gospels, but why did the interpretive emphasis shift from the Day of Ato...

Re: Blasphemy & the passion narrative before Mark.
................................................................... If the pre-Marcan version was understood to mean that Jesus did in fact commit blasphemy I would expect there to be witnesses to testify in some way to this, but there isn’t. Not sure what you mean here. There are (false) witnesses...

Re: Why was Jesus rejected in his hometown?
I wonder whether there may be a cultural issue ? In our modern egalitarian dynamic society the idea of an ordinary bloke next door becoming someone special and important is a positive image. In a traditional hierarchical static society this is much more anomalous and threatening. The difference bet...
