Re: Antithesis (Clean thread)

But if you removed (11) then you are down to 11 'citations' where 3 of them are more or less directly from the Matthean antitheses. So 8 vs 3? I think when we trim them down it gets even worse than that. Why should we believe that De Recta in Deum Fide is referencing a text as you describe when it ...

Re: Antithesis (Clean thread)

I think you should try again with the antitheses referenced in Book 2. A stronger case can be made from that. This is garbage. Not your argument but the Dialogues of Adamantius - they are a bad source. No your argument is garbage. (Wow third grader argument I have to counter) AM2 does not go throug...

Re: Antithesis (Clean thread)

Stephen, I know you have a hard time with this concept. But the Marcionite Paul was not all written when the sect erupted with the Gospel. At least two of the books were written later. And at least one after an early version of Matthew was released. The Antithesis was a document that developed to co...

Re: Antithesis (Clean thread)

11) The God of Creation was known to Adam and his contemporaries – this clear from their Scriptures But the Father of Christ is unknown, for our Lord says, “No one knows the Father, except the Son, neither does anyone know the son, except the Father.“ But this is most perplexing. One would have exp...

Re: Antithesis (Clean thread)

- you don't find it odd that the passage in question isn't a citation from the Pentateuch? Would Marcion really have been so sloppy to cite a loose inaccurate passage from the Books of Moses and juxtapose against it a verbatim passage from the gospel? Not sure such sloppiness allows for this to be ...

Re: Antithesis (Clean thread)

Do you think that Tertullian is citing from a Marcionite text or has he merely culled things Marcionites say? For a different thread. But the short answer, he does not seem to have a copy of the antithesis, as he did approached it very differently than the Gospel and Paul -- which he does have Gree...

Antithesis (Clean thread)

Since the last thread got out of hand (I'll take a partial mea culpa on that) we'll try again. -- Note, I will address and refute Stephen Huller's assertions on AM in another thread, and point out why each of them is incorrect; as he was kind enough to lay out his reasoning in that other thread for ...

Re: Was Marcion Really a 'Ship-Master' or was Irenaeus Taking Over a Platonic Metaphor?

Serious questions, want your briefest reply (a couple sentences on why, possibly a source name to reference ... I have the ability to look it up myself). I don't plan to respond to your answers, just want to understand why you assign different monikers to works, and why it matters. 1) Why do you say...

Re: Antithesis: What do we know of Marcion's 'Antithesis'?

Stuart, I don't see how you're in a position to tell others how to act or what threads they are and aren't allowed to participate in. That is not your place. Stephan is a needed devil's advocate in a serious field with serious questions and filled with people who take themselves too seriously. Step...

Re: Antithesis: What do we know of Marcion's 'Antithesis'?

// useless post whose greatest feature was were Stephen wrote the word Stupid in bold I have asked the Mods to have Stephen Huller (Secret Alias) banned for 30 days, as a time out. I encourage anyone else who is fed up with his abuse to make the same request. I know there are about a dozen who have...
