Ben,
scratch #1 then, not a variant, but my bad reading.
I just gave the variants I found in Sawnson's. I did not spend too much time looking it up.

Re: Papyrus Oxyrhynchus 5345.
So the variants (1) no variant in verse 1:7 (2) 1:8 - ἐν before πνεύματι ἁγίῳ (changes "baptize in the holy spirit" to "baptize with the holy spirit") (3) 1:17 - ὁ Ἰησοῦς (or rather - ΟΙΣ n.s.) (2) with B L H Δ 33 (WH follows this reading) (3) with Φ 1194 (curiously both are Byza...

Re: 'First Century Mark' Now Dated to Second/Third Centuries
The question for me, is how they even dated other pOxy scarps 2nd or 3rd century? What is it in the debris they were found with that gives them a pre-4th century date? It seems as if the dating of these is separate from the archeology of the sites, done in London after black market pieces are bought...

Re: 'First Century Mark' Now Dated to Second/Third Centuries
This is the conservative equivalent of the Gospel of Jesus's Wife scandal. Not a forgery of course but similar in terms of the corruption and deceit. I think you are getting the nature of the scams in Religious related artifacts, especially Christian and Jewish. There is tremendous seller, scholar ...

Re: Do You Want To Know A Secret?
First of all Stuart you ask a lot of questions for someone from New Jersey. Wow that is an old joke. But wrong, I'm a Californian. Although born and raised initially in Ohio. I once worked with a guy from New Jersey ... what a piece of work he was. That formed my impression of New Jerse...

Re: Discrediting Your Source. GJohn as Denial of GMark
Joe, Could not everything you say about John against Mark also apply to Matthew? I say this because there are additional specific points of refutation in John against with Matthew not present in Mark (e.g., protoevangelium). John would not need Mark if he was refuting Matthew. ... From my vantage, ...

Re: Jesus orders a massacre (Luke 19:27)
Ben, That is a good write up. I find it interesting that verse 27 seems not to have been in Marcion's version. Certainly Tertullian would have seized upon this as an example of Jesus being judge and destroyer, rather than the good and nice only Jesus the Marcionites profess. But he doesn't. The othe...

Re: Discrediting Your Source. GJohn as Denial of GMark
OK. I'll drop the Smith allegation. I am not strongly attached to it anyway, and it is not my original, but it is out there and we are all aware of it (Stephen Carlson's book for example, or more balanced presentation from Tony Burke). Even so, I still cannot accept the letter existed prior to say t...

Re: Jesus and Finland
You are off on the US population and China's. China is closer to 1.5 billion, and the US was 332 million at the end of 2017 (growing almost 3 million a year). Curiously demographers say the populations of the two nations by 2100 will be about 1.2 billion in China due to very low birth rates for wome...

Re: Discrediting Your Source. GJohn as Denial of GMark
So what you are saying is that you haven't any evidence for your assertion that it's a 20th century fake. Surely you can come up with an argument or two. I wouldn't have taken you to be someone who openly bases his opinions on 'feelings.' Nice try, but this response is a double fallacy of "tu ...
