Re: Marcion and a gospel harmony.

........................................ PS: Does the position that the original Against Marcion was using a gospel harmony require Stephan Huller's view that the first gospel was a supergospel (which we would view as a harmony, like the Diatessaron) which was cut up to create the four canonical go...

Re: From a dying Christ to Jesus Christ

Ok, therefore about Marcion you are right insofar you have other evidence in addition to decide who comes before, between Marcion and Mark. But about the Odes, why do you think that is sufficient the references to a god without "envy" to push the Odes after Marcion? There is no need of ad...

Re: From a dying Christ to Jesus Christ

Now son of the most high God is almost certainly original being found in Mark Luke's source. Ok, but I would like to resolve a question of method. Why do you think that Mark is before Mcn if I can interpret ''son of the most High God'' as an anti-marcionite reaction even in Mark, just as, according...

Re: Tertullian's Praescriptione = Irenaeus's προστάγμασι

My point is that Irenaeus as used by Cyril is at least vaguely related to Against Heresies and not related at all to the material in Tertullian's Prescription. But would you agree that it was possible that someone took the Appendix Against All Heresies or an early Greek predecessor as part of the o...

Re: sentenced to death for atheism’

Weren't Christians killing folks just for holding the wrong opinions about how to worship God as recently as the 17th century, not to mention the entire medieval period? Puritans in Massachusetts colony burned Quakers at the stake. It doesn't take much to be labeled an "atheist" other tha...

Re: From a dying Christ to Jesus Christ

Not even when where Luke has "the Most High" Marcion has "God"? https://markusvinzent.blogspot.it/2011/08/love-your-enemies-marcions-ethics-of.html?m=1 Why can't I apply the "argument from polemical reason" about the "Most High" affair just as you have used i...

Re: Another possible argument for Marcionite priority over L

Since the precise words used in Marcion's Evangelium are not relevant to the point being made, I'm wondering whether a harmonised text similar to the reading here of the Diatessaron is being recalled by the writer. And he said to them on that day in the evening, Let us go over to the other side of t...

Re: Tertullian's Praescriptione = Irenaeus's προστάγμασι

This would work for Against Heresies which does contain such material but not for an original version of the Prescription which does not discuss this issue. As noted above I do not find this argument in Book One of Against Heresies. Perhaps you are a better locator of these things than I. The begin...

Re: From a dying Christ to Jesus Christ

The fact "that the repeated reference in the Odes to God being without envy, is directed against Gnostics and/or Marcionites who attributed envy to the world creator" is a relatively strong argument to move the Odes after the marcionites, but only if then we consider the nickname of James...

Re: Acts and the epistles (both Pauline and Catholic).

I don't recall Acts identifying him as such. No Acts doesn't. It is possible to regard this James as quite different from James the lord's brother in Paul and from James the Lord's brother in Hegesippus. I just don't think it is very likely. One should not multiply James' without necessity. Andrew ...
