Re: Origen -- A Basic Stylometric Study

I wouldn't mind seeing other analyses of known forgeries. It seems to me that there might be a difference between identifying misattribution and forgery with stylometry, since only in the latter case is the author probably trying to disguise his writing. Good suggestion. We have at least one advant...

Re: A Summary History of Christian Origins?

1 Corinthians 9:13 “Do you not know that those who are employed in the temple service get their food from the temple, and those who serve at the altar share in the sacrificial offerings?” 1 Corinthians 10:18 “Consider the people of Israel: are not those who eat the sacrifices participants in the alt...

Re: A Summary History of Christian Origins?

It appears that we are down to a contest between the probable (a pre-Marcionite version of Paul) and the possible (a Marcionite origin of the letters of Paul). Needless to say, I prefer the probable to the possible, as a general way of going about. I am sure that I can share more notes in the future...

Re: A Summary History of Christian Origins?

Peter, but which is the problem with that quote gospel, even if originally marcionite in nature? Perhaps you've forgotten what I've already written; perhaps it wasn't understood in the first place; perhaps you disagree but haven't said why. ... that is a 'problem' for you, since you perceive an int...

Re: A brief note on Hebrews 9.23 (better sacrifices).

Can't we just punt? i.e.,

Equate "sacrifices" with "(an institution/category of) sacrifices," regardless of the actual number of sacrificial acts under that category (0, 1, or more).

Re: A Summary History of Christian Origins?

Probably just easier to say Galilean then Nazoreans which many will associate with a later cult. I would have to say John the Baptist movement is the earliest possible movement we can trace anything back with any plausibility. I would lean towards a Aramaic Apocalyptic Zealot movement if I had to u...

Re: A Summary History of Christian Origins?

As scholarly reconstructions based on the extant references show, the external evidence supports the existence of this passage in the Apostolikon, as inconvenient as that might be. The internal evidence against post-Marcionite interpolation includes the fact that the passage has the claim that the ...
