Re: THE insurrection (Mark 15:7)

Here endeth the first lesson from the book of archibald. :) "Behold! All of these things are to be found in the Book of Archibald ." Just to be fair, Unterbrink is not wrong that there is evidence that the narrative of the governorships of Cumanus and Pilate has been tampered with. Wasn't...

Re: Carrier and Couchoud about Revelation 13:8

Hebrew Cosmos.png Love that diagram. Did they, do we think, see the firmament and heaven as domed/arched? That would make sense, given that the firmament appears to the eye to meet the earth at the horizon. I suppose the alternative is a series of layers above (and parallel to) the 'flat' earth. Di...

Re: THE insurrection (Mark 15:7)

I'd kinda say your 3a & b are really related to 2 of my list. I saw your 2 as suggesting that events which had actually happened during the 'quiet' time were sanitised or erased? I think that I have seen that "dry spot" in Josephus' history of Judea being due to a "lack of source...

Re: THE insurrection (Mark 15:7)

Tangentally: that the supposedly released robber was called 'Son of the Father' doesn't feel like a coincidence. But then I have no idea if it was a common Jewish name. I have a bit of data on that issue here: http://earlywritings.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=2431&p=54409#p54409 . Thx. Giv...

Re: THE insurrection (Mark 15:7)

To explain why Josephus did not mention this particular insurrection around 30 CE (he mentions none at all, nor any other notable news, between 17 & 26 CE), seems to require that 1) Josephus did not consider these insurrections large enough to require description, or 2) they were originally inc...

Re: THE insurrection (Mark 15:7)

So....what insurrection?

Given that there is no insurrection in the NT for the 20's-30's CE, nor in Josephus, and Tacitus says that 'all was quiet (in Judea) under Tiberias' (14-37 CE).

Re: The Dead Sea Scrolls and Christianity

I am also struck between the portrayal of Rabbi Joshua as a pacifist and the portrayal of Jesus of Nazareth. Although....we could say the same about Rabbi Hillel, who mostly preceded the 1st C CE (died 10 CE apparently), and whose teachings (apparently) Rabbi Joshua was continuing in the tradition ...

Re: THE insurrection (Mark 15:7)

At least in the story, Barabbas seems to be described as being already in prison prior to Jesus' arrest.

Re: Lena Einhorn's ideas

It's a theory anyway. And not a bad one, imo. 'Paul', it seems, arrived into events with some sort of .... interesting, probably non-Judean background or other. Perhaps the part that is slightly hard to imagine is the partly sincere/believing Paul. It doesn't seem to fit the rest. But I'm not sayin...

Re: Lena Einhorn's ideas

Yes. I was thinking only about the "How could a man of violence be remembered as an icon of peace & love?" piece of the puzzle. I think of the term archetype within a Jungian framework, if that helps....... ....Looking at this from a "newborn cult" angle, what makes somebody...
