Re: The crucifixion: alternate times and places.
2. Accordingly the forgery of those who have recently given currency to acts against our Saviour is clearly proved. For the very date given in them shows the falsehood of their fabricators. 3. For the things which they have dared to say concerning the passion of the Saviour are put into the fourth ...

Re: The crucifixion: alternate times and places.
The Talmud implies that Jesus was being stoned and hanged, after 40 days, on the eve of Passover. Does that count? Possibly. I read it as saying that Jesus was charged with a crime that was punishable by stoning, but in reality he was executed by hanging (not that he was actually stoned and then hi...

The crucifixion: alternate times and places.
I would like to collect here as many true variants on the time and place of the crucifixion of Jesus as possible. The default is the gospel account, wherein Jesus dies just outside of Jerusalem sometime during the prefecture of Pontius Pilate and the rule of Tiberius Caesar. I would not count a gene...

Re: An index to my ongoing posts on the epistle to the Hebre
Nice work. What's next? :) Thanks. :) Not done with Hebrews yet. There is still this question, for instance: This question: "X" = the earth's surface (X 1 ) / the kingdom of the prince of the air and his demons (X 2 ) / under the earth (X 3 ) X 1 = the surface of the earth, where humans d...

A note on Leviticus 1.1-17 & Exodus 24.4-6 (LXX terms).
I have chosen two distinct passages from the Pentateuch in order to illuminate some of the vocabulary used in the LXX for sacrifices. Trigger warning : In this post I have consistently translated the Greek term ὁλοκαύτωμα as holocaust , which in this context is a type of whole burnt sacrifice, not a...

I once posted my "apologetical" table of Greek prepositions and which cases you are most likely to find them in (I do see exceptions occasionally): English transliteration [/b] Basic [/b] Genitive (of -) [/b] Ablative (from -) [/b] Dative (in -) [/b] Locative (to -) [/b] Instrumental (by ...

Re: Went to Oracle at Delphi, it was Clothed.Mark use of Clo
Hi Ben, it has been a long time since I had the pleasure. I remember having discussions with you on whether Mark was a simple-minded collector of Jesus traditions or a sophisticated dissembler writing cultic material which was not to be accessible outside of those unto whom 'it was given to know th...

I read that blog post of yours a few months ago with great interest. I was wondering.... Do you have any thoughts on how the gospel and epistles of John fit into the picture?Peter Kirby wrote:I've got an essay about it:

Re: Jesus in the 30's ad
While agreeing with you regarding the overall nature of the symbolism, I myself am not certain that the predicted realities symbolized by Mark 13.24-27 I don't like those verses. They give me headaches and ache my eyes with more reading. I will have to refresh my memory of Hanhart and other suggest...
