Re: A Table of Christological Titles in Early Christian Writ

To be really useful, the table would have to provide more detail (such as number of occurrences). Also, I'll have to assume that you did a search on the terms using English translations. In ancient Greek, the word order alone doesn't dictate what the translation may come out as. In the long term, so...

Re: book of enoch

No offense, but a bit of formatting and standardized punctuation would really help us figure out what is being said. DCH Richard Allan Ritter. You write that the Book of Enoch was "...a great favorite in the Christian Church..." "...many of the Fathers use it without hesitation as the...

Re: Did Celsus Read Irenaeus or Irenaeus Celsus?

Eh? The "fragment" Stanton speaks of above is the Muratorian Fragment. I do not know how the above is supposed to bolster the possibility that Celsus had read Irenaeus or vice versa. A while back I had segregated the words of Celsus and Origen's summarizations of other points Celsus had ma...

Re: What started Judaism?

Yes, sure does. Now that I am pretty much past the need for the post-surgical pain meds I just started to cut back on it today. I was already taking the minimal dose, but it still results in brain fog ... mmblx. Back to the point, I think Daniel and the "Ezra-Nehemiah" books (including the...

Re: Volunteer needed for proofreading the Latin of Irenaeus

That sounds like fun. I had Latin in high school, a long long time ago. I could do a little. I appreciate the interest Toto! This is my third attempt to add something to this thread, each previous attempt dissipating somewhere in the haze (in other wise, "situation norble"). Basically, I ...

Re: What started Judaism?

It might be easier to go backwards in time when attempting to determine what evolutionary steps have formed the modern Judaism(s) we know. If we look at Rabbinic (Orthodox) Judaism, the events that let to its development can be traced to 1st & 2nd century CE: Destruction of temple (70 CE) and li...

Re: Echo of Tertullian's Anti-Marcionite Reading in Galatian

Ever had a "conversation" with an elderly, somewhat senile personage which consists of the other person blurting out of nowhere the logical response to some question posed by you a week earlier? Generally, we sit there scratching our head for a few minutes trying to remember the original c...

Remember how I once said that Detering doesn't "Google translate" well.

Still true ... DCH
