Re: Paul’s Jesus --- Man or Myth ?
Then, how might one characterize Paul’s Jesus Christ? Human or myth? Robert I believe wrong questions never give good answers. In your first question you mix up Jesus and Christ, so in fact there are two questions: 1. How shall we characterize Paul’s Christ? 2. How shall we characterize Paul’s Jesu...

The resurrection of the dead as a historical event
Recently I touched the ‘resurrection of the dead’ subject in the Didache XVI and Quadratus topics, but I believe it deserves a more profound discussion. This subject is not the easiest one, as in my opinion in early Christianity this phrase has quickly evolved from a historical description into a su...

Re: Papias, Quadratus, Eusebius, and Philip Sidetes.
... Quadratus and Philip of Side (discussing Papias) remain two independent sources that people saved by Jesus were still alive around 125-130 CE. Even when we suppose that some of those saved by Jesus were quite young around 30 CE, let’s say 15 years old … (This is not a difficult calculation.) Un...

Re: The apocalyptic XVIth chapter of the Didache
(part 9) Conclusion At the start of the conclusion of my discussion of Didache XVI, I want to thank DCHindley for his topic ‘RBL review of The Didache: A Missing Piece of the Puzzle’, which not only triggered me to work out the discussion of Didache XVI above, but also provided supplementary reading...

Thank you for your discussion of κατάθεμα. I think I'll have to study my Greek again.

Re: Papias, Quadratus, Eusebius, and Philip Sidetes.
Who’s afraid of Papias of Hierapolis? I think both Robert H. Gundry and Ben C. Smith are. Grundy’s quote above is nothing but a chain of imputations. ‘Distrust’, ‘notoriously unreliable’, ‘garbled’, ‘sounds something like’, ‘phraseology sounds more like…’, ‘probably confuses’, ‘poor Philip fell int...

Re: The apocalyptic XVIth chapter of the Didache
(part 8) The κατάθεμα of verse 5 Didache XVI 5 ends with “but they who endure in their faith shall be saved by the curse (κατάθεμα) itself” , and this saving, comforting action is associated with the fiery trial with its many casualties and with many others getting in big trouble. The meaning of κατ...

Re: The apocalyptic XVIth chapter of the Didache
No, it is your translation which is incorrect. Just because something is impossible does not mean that it has to be retranslated until it is at least feasible. "He flew to London by flapping his arms." That sentence has meaning, even if the meaning is impossible for a human. It would be a...

Re: The apocalyptic XVIth chapter of the Didache
Fourteen occurrences of ἀνάστασις in Josephus, zero resurrections. Any dictionary you open: rising, getting up is the fundamental meaning. Only 'resurrection' in the NT, aberrant use.DCHindley wrote: OK, two examples.
