Re: Why a so excessive use of EXPLICIT OT prophecies in the canonical Gospels (but not so in Mark)

But Mark still relies upon the Old Testament to establish Jesus as a messianic figure, just Marcion did.

Re: Stephan Huller's opinion regarding Sanballat the Horonite

It's kind of weird that this person (apparently this discussion takes place elsewhere than here) parrots Stephen Huller (SH), who is Jewish by ethnicity (non-observant) but at the same time tending to lean towards Samaritan positions, yet at the same time seems to disagree with SH by being critical...

Re: Stephan Huller's opinion regarding Sanballat the Horonite

Why ask what I think? What the Samaritans think is what matters - https://books.google.com/books?id=_iMnzhSSbowC&pg=PA90&dq=samaritan+ezra&hl=en&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwimmoKI0d3aAhULhlQKHYcOClUQ6AEILzAB#v=onepage&q=samaritan%20ezra&f=false I ask because he seems so confident in...

Re: Why did Celsus talk about an Ass?

Remember in The Golden Ass, the ass symbolized the lower state of being.

Stephan Huller's opinion regarding Sanballat the Horonite

First, a set up. For the last year I've been engaged in a discussion with someone who promotes many of Huller's ideas, to the point that he effectively has stopped thinking about other possibilities. It's almost become an idiosyncrasy of his that when I make a post about my ideas, he will always com...

Re: Why Pilate? Because of the "astral sea"

How does a 'dense sea' correlate to 'astral matter'? Isn't astral matter associated with the material of the heavens? Is there a link between the skies and the seas? It may be linked in this way: In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. The earth was without form and void, and darkn...

Re: Why Pilate? Because of the "astral sea"

Just to discredit myself fully, I have thought of " Pontius " Pilate to be inferring Marcion, the mariner and heretic par excellence . I do have a rather bizarre (convoluted?) theory that does tie the mariner/Odyssey metaphors and allegories together, even though I'm not a fan of D. R. Mac...

Re: Was the Temple of Onias modeled after the Temple of Gerizim?

continued This holy tower/pillar may also be related to the Samaritan notion that Eden was located on Mt. Gerizim, and after the fall was lofted up in Heaven. The tower/pillar/ladder that reaches high into the heavens so as to bridge earth and Eden once more could-- could --be implied. The crucifix...

Re: Was the Temple of Onias modeled after the Temple of Gerizim?

Although, I do wonder about the temple being a tower had something to do with this: The heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky above proclaims his handiwork. Day to day pours out speech, and night to night reveals knowledge. There is no speech, nor are there words, whose voice is not heard. T...

Re: Was the Temple of Onias modeled after the Temple of Gerizim?

This is what Josephus relates regarding the Jewish temple in Egypt: So Ptolemy complied with his proposals, and gave him a place one hundred and eighty furlongs distant from Memphis. That Nomos was called the Nomos of Heliopolls, where Onias built a fortress and a temple, not like to that at Jerusa...
