Jesus and Christ are very similar in appearance to each other in Hebrew. (ישוע and ישו respectively). I am not sure what you mean here. Christ is the English transliteration of Latin Christus, which is the Latin transliteration of the Greek Χριστός, which was used to translate the Hebrew משיח (Mash...

Re: Jesus and Christ

Don't really see a connection between that and my post above, so I'll just leave it at that.

Re: Why Jesus was despised by Celsus's Jew as "coming from Egypt"

Of course Egypt (or an idealistic version) was believed to be the birth of knowledge and wisdom by Greeks. Why so many well respected philosophers--Thales, Pythagoras, Plato, and a few others--were said to have inherited their philosophy from Egypt. However true this is, is another issue; but that i...

Re: Jesus and Christ

Jesus and Christ are very similar in appearance to each other in Hebrew. (ישוע and ישו respectively). This serves to highlight the Jewish priority of Pauline Christianity, wherein Jesus and Christ are used interchangeably. (Doesn't really work in the Greek). I have speculated elsewhere that the ide...

Re: Which text is it that has Papias as a heretic?

That's it! Thank you!

See. I'm not crazy...

Though I was intrigued by the idea that it was Papias who wrote that passage, because I believe that Papias was the author of the Apostolic Romances, and editor who created the Diatessaron.

Again, thank you.

Re: Why Jesus was despised by Celsus's Jew as "coming from Egypt"

Jesus/Joshua represents the spirit crossing from Egypt, which represented captivity and slavery, and the material to Kabbalists, and into the Holy land of Israel. Moses's death is emulated by Jesus dying, but his resurrection is marked as becoming Christ ( Philippians 2:8-11). Coming out of Egypt , ...

Re: Which text is it that has Papias as a heretic?

I swear I remember reading not one month ago something that said Papias or Papyas was a heretic.

Which text is it that has Papias as a heretic?

Is it Hippolytus or the Philosophumena? It calls Papias a heretic who wrote (past tense) monsterous fiction.

Re: Is Simon of Cyrene Satan himself?

I'd be keen to hear how the proto-synoptic Gospel of the Hebrews ... promoted Lukuas and bar Kochba ... It comes from assessing both the temporal emergence of the text, plus the traditions that surround it. There are many corresponding connections to Gospel of the Hebrews / Ur-Matthew , and bar Koc...
