Re: Markus Vinzent's claim about Marcion
. One would expect that also elsewhere in the Gospel no one is described as „good“ (ἀγαθός – agathos). Mark 10:18 And Jesus said to him, “Why do you call me good? No one is good except God alone." ὁ δὲ Ἰησοῦς εἶπεν αὐτῷ Τί με λέγεις ἀγαθόν ; οὐδεὶς ἀγαθὸς εἰ μὴ εἷς ὁ Θεός. Is GMark consistentl...

Re: The overwhelming consistency of the NT
If the Bishop of Lyons is on-message in 180 CE (from France), it speaks to uniformity of belief across the Orthodox Christian world. Is this not a tautology? Since Orthodoxy , by definition, entails a great deal of uniformity of belief, is this statement not tantamount to affirming that there was m...

Re: Kapyong's Jesus Myth Theory
And we have papyrus Oxyrhynchus 405, a fragment of the Greek text of Against Heresies, dated to about 200, only about 20 years after the purported composition of the work. Andreas Schmidt: Der mogliche Text von P. Oxy. III 405, Z. 39-45 (The Possible Text of P. Oxy. III 405. 39-45) published in 199...

Re: Kapyong's Jesus Myth Theory
I think Marcion is more likely than not to have been a real person based on all the data; but I have concerns about Ignatius (or, at least, Ignatius being an early 2nd century entity) and Irenaeus. I think one ought to address all these texts with an open mind, and consider where most knowledge of ...

Ben wrote: "Garrow, incidentally, holds to Matthean posteriority (Mark > Luke > Matthew). I like the unique perspective, but cannot say I am convinced." Yeah, MacDonald has "shipwrecked" that idea for me until something else changes my mind. In case you are at all interested, Ga...

Garrow, incidentally, holds to Matthean posteriority (Mark > Luke > Matthew). I like the unique perspective, but cannot say I am convinced.

Re: The Didache.
I think an explanation for this could be that if the Matthew-type text in the Didache is a translation of an original Hebrew Matthew, the latter would presumably not have had any Markan material because it was in Hebrew and used by Jewish Christians and Mark is in Greek and arguably Pauline. Just t...

Re: The Didache.
Hi, John. I wanted to present my own take on the argument that Garrow offers in chapter 13 (no rush on getting there or responding until you have read it). He gives most (all?) of his synopses in Greek only, so I will give the English translation here for convenience. Matthew 24 and Mark 13 follow e...
