Re: 1 Thessalonians first?

Hi Bernard, Greek women were generally not allowed out of their houses except to attend religious festivals. Why would Phoebe be taking the month long trip to Rome. What could possibly be the reason? Any woman traveling alone on such a long journey would face incredible dangers of rape and enslavem...

Re: The Mythicist Position

**Godwin's Law Alert**

In the early 20th century Adolf was a popular name in Germany and not surpsingly rapidly dropped in popularity for newborn german boys after 1944 (see chart) . Did the name of Jesus also drop in popularity for newborn jewish boys in the second century?

Re: The Mythicist Position

I'd like to see an objective discussion of the mythicist position. I'm currently appreciating Acharya's mythicist position due to it's comprehensive approach instead of just "Jesus mythicism." There are two simple insights to keep in mind when it comes to the mythicist position: 1. When t...

Re: Evidence for first-century Nazareth?

Matthew 2:23: “And he came and dwelt in a city called Nazareth: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophets, ‘He shall be called a Nazarene’” Where is this prophesy to be found? In my opinion, Matthew is quoting Judges 13 from memory. In one of the OT's several miraculous birth stor...

Re: Evidence for first-century Nazareth?

But really, the elephant in the room has to be that Nazarene/Nazorean does not derive etymologically from Nazareth. What an amazing coincidence it would be for a Nazarene to just happen to come from Nazareth. A scribal insertion or error seems more likely. Another point of interest is that Luke all...

Re: Proofs That Jesus Existed

1. If Jesus doesn't exist then I don't exist.
2. I exist.
3. Therefore, Jesus exists.

Re: When was the term "christian" first used?

*spoken in a sheepish voice* Yes, but even the dodgy works may have a kernel of historical truth. The first paragraph to the introduction of the following book, Apocalypse of the Alien God , supports the hypothesis that the lines between "christianity" and other religions may've been blur...

The source could be a forgery however other parts of this book support it's authenticity. FWIW, Mark (aka, the Boukalou/Buffalo ) was allegedy martyred during a festival dedicated to Serapis (the bull)in Alexandria. Re: false reports about jesus.

The trial account in Mark 14 attests to false reports circulating about Jesus. vv. 57-58: Some stood up and gave false testimony against him, saying, “We heard him say, ‘I will destroy this temple that is made with hands, and in three days I will build another, not made with hands.’” Ironically, th...
