Re: Historicity of Jesus - the Talking Points
When I say that, I mean that I'm not the person Bernard I assumed that I was, a faithful Doherty-following mythicist. Shock! When and where did I assume that? When I say that my opinion is that post 70 AD is a better hypothesis, it isn't because I see that changing "the non-historically releva...

"the great city" reappears in verses 17:18 "The woman you saw is the great city that rules over the kings of the earth.” 18:10 18:16 "and cry out: “ ‘Woe! Woe to you, great city, dressed in fine linen, purple and scarlet, and glittering with gold, precious stones and pearls!"...

Re: Historicity of Jesus - the Talking Points
It seems to me that you are not dealing with historicity, but the transformation of Paul's beliefs into facts. Whether Paul believes Jesus was a Jew who was crucified or not sheds no light on the historicity of Jesus. Spin, I find your position rather puzzling. Do you care to explain it? Cordially,...

Re: Historicity of Jesus - the Talking Points
Hello, Spin You know I do not agree about James the brother of God, which you have been defending for Gal 1:19. I wish you read my blog entry for the rest of your discussion on Galatians, where I tried to show that in order to conclude a long and important argument, the past existence of Jesus had t...

At Rev 11:2, Jerusalem is referred as "the holy city", not "the great city".

evidence of an earthly human Jesus in the Pauline epistles
In favor of an ultra minimalist & non-Christian historicist position on Jesus (from a revised posting of mine on Richard Carrier's blog): “In Paul’s epistles & ‘Hebrews’, Jesus is described as a descendant of Abraham (Galatians l3:16), Israelites (Romans 9:4-5), the tribe of Judah (Hebrews 7...

Re: What is going on in Revelation 11:8? Lord crucified in E
Spiritual Sodom and Egypt most likely refers to Rome (the great city). And the Lord crucified is God himself, figuratively wounded because of the destruction of the temple of Jerusalem and the killing/enslavement of many Jews (by the Romans). Rev 11:8 is part of an entirely Jewish apocalypse written...
