Re: When do the expanded forms Jesus, Christ, Chrest 1st app

The Sinaiticus manuscript has a peculiar way of spelling the word Christian as "Chrestian." The Vaticanus manuscript of the same age, utilizes a slightly transitional spelling: "Chreistian." https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-lO322G2n7Wg/UauFNYAC1tI/AAAAAAAAJ2M/xA3SqeJqS-k/w448-h...

Re: Weirdest NT passages

I'm working on a "top ten" list of weird NT passages. Here's two verses I find very disturbing .... But those mine enemies, which would not that I should reign over them, bring hither, and slay [them] before me. The Good News of God's Kingdom Is Proclaimed and Everyone Is Forced into It. ...

Re: Is Against the Galileans a Composite?

I have already suggested the content of the book as a composite in terms. Please go back and look at that posting. In one sense what we are reading today on the internet, entitled "Against the Galilaeans", is a composite work. In his introduction to the English translation of the followin...

Re: evidence for Christianity before the third Roman Jewish

Epictetus is referring to the lawless wild zealot inhabitants of Galilee - and "their madness in the face of death". (What happened at Masada?) The idea that he is referring to Christians, an idea that has been around for quite some time (an example is reflected in the introduction of &quo...

Re: More of the same

There should have been bishops of Rome and other major cities including Peter, Clement, Ignatius and Paul who were executed in Rome. You seem to be citing hagiography. That's incorrect spin. These citations are derived from the authorship of the so-called gnostic heretics and the genre of New Testa...

The Propaganda War Against Mythicism [Vridar]

http://vridar.org/2013/10/18/the-propaganda-war-against-mythicism/ As their weapon of choice against the Christ Myth hypothesis (“mythicism”), theologians, religion and Biblical scholars appear from where I stand to regularly deploy the instruments of propaganda. The motivations appear to me to be ...

Re: Robert Price reviews Candida Moss's "Myth of Persecution

With respect to where the martyrdom "legends" fit in to the overall picture it is interesting to note that there appears to be the following chronological sequence of genre in the history of Christian related literature (ignoring any actual dates): * DRAFT Chronological Sequence of Authors...

Re: Is Against the Galileans a Composite?

The first thing worth noticing in Against the Galileans is that the author(s) assume the reader already knows what is being referred to, and knows the definition of these "Galileans", requiring no introductory information at all .... Julian had introduced a law in the empire by which the ...
