Re: Messiah ben Joseph & Galilee; Messiah ben David & Judea.

If Ben is right about Jesus being before son of Joseph and only later made son of David, then I wonder if that modification was part and parcel of a greater process known in this forum as euhemerization : 1) Jesus was euhemerized as a Galilean son of Joseph crucified by Herod under Claudius . 2) Jes...

The name «son of God» in Iêsouos

Iêsous is the Greek for Jeshoua. But the Greeks didn't know that Iêsous is Joshua. They knew rather that Ies refers to the divine , whie -uos means son . Iêsouos would mean "Son of God". There is some evidence that even Luke realized this gentile connection: Luke 1:31-32, 35: 31 You will ...

A mythicist accusation by Celsus

He gives it as his opinion, that the controversy between Jews and Christians is a most foolish one, and asserts that the discussions which we have with each other regarding Christ differ in no respect from what is called in the proverb, 'a fight about the shadow of an ass.' and thinks that there is...

midrashical origin of the brothers of Jesus in Mark

Isn’t this the carpenter? Isn’t this Mary’s son and the brother of James, Joseph, Judas and Simon ? Aren’t his sisters here with us?” And they took offense at him. (Mark 6:3) Not only that list of names appeared here in Genesis 49:1-22: Then Jacob called for his sons and said: “Gather around so I c...

A reason to doubt about the historicity of Paul

Compare two arguments: 1) for Maurice Mergui , Paul is named Paul because he is a Saul/Sheol (the death) who is won by Jesus: 1 Samuel 9:1-2: There was a Benjamite, a man of standing, whose name was Kish son of Abiel, the son of Zeror, the son of Bekorath, the son of Aphiah of Benjamin. Kish had a s...

Re: John and not Jesus satisfied the 4000

I wonder if the same reversal (the number 7 tranformed in 12; people who have to go along the "way" are transformed in people who come from a distant place) is in action in Mark 4:11-12. There Jesus condemns the outsiders and exalts the insiders, contra factum that in the rest of the story...

And now, O Tat, God’s Image 1 hath been sketched for thee, as far as it can be 2; and if thou wilt attentively dwell on it and observe it with thy heart’s eyes, believe me, son, thou’lt find the Path that leads above

John and not Jesus satisfied the 4000

If you remove the part in red as interpolation from Joshua 9:6-9: Then they went to Joshua in the camp at Gilgal and said to him and the Israelites, “ We have come from a distant country ; make a treaty with us.” 7 The Israelites said to the Hivites, “But perhaps you live near us, so how can we make...
