Re: After the 70 was the Christianity more (and not less) judaized?

I imagine that you are historicist. About the topic of HJ and essenism, I would be curious to know the ''case for a historical Jesus'' that Russel Gmirkin has promised to made in future. Oh man. I'd be interested in hearing Gmirkin's input. But to give my own input regarding the post heading (even ...

Re: Aquila of Sinope's translation of Genesis chapter 1

However, flipping a few pages ahead, I notice that Genesis 1.31 has a reading from Aquila which involves him using ἀγαθόν where the LXX has καλὰ.
This may indicate that he also translated טוֹב as αγαθός in verse four also. Thank you.

Re: Aquila of Sinope's translation of Genesis chapter 1

chrestos is used to translate yashar in the LXX. Yashar is the deeply mystical root of the name Israel. Best guess. Thank you for this. Also would you know if the light from verse three was thought to be different or superior to the light of verse fourteen on? John, to an extent, seems to invoke th...

Re: Aquila of Sinope's translation of Genesis chapter 1

Many thanks for that. I had speculated that the good in reference to the light in Genesis had been the origin of the Isu Chrestus of Marcion. (And the fact that both him and Aquila were from Sinope added to that speculation). But, oh well. Back to the drawing board.

Again thank you.

Aquila of Sinope's translation of Genesis chapter 1

Does anyone know how Aquila translated chapter one of Genesis, in particular verse four? Did he substitute Καλός with Χρήστος? In what ways did his translation differ from the Septuagint? I admit that I'm not at all knowledgeable on the subject of translations so please forgive my ignorance. I ask o...

The illustration by Robert Fludd might help explain it: https://www.google.com/search?client=safari&tbm=isch&sa=1&ei=yFwZWsiOLOiijwSy_KWwCQ&q=robert+fludd+images&oq=robert+fludd+&gs_l=mobile-gws-img.1.4.0l5.38797.46715.0.48097.35.30.1.4.4.0.163.3548.1j27.28.0....0...1c.1.64.m...

Re: A Tale of Two Christianities--Christian Genesis, part 2

Thanks. The Logos was like an emissary or emanation from God, the Word or Reason being transmitted to me. The Old Testament itself was called 'Logos' IIRC. I think Hermes was also called 'Logos', since he was the messenger of Zeus. Logos could also be used to describe any reasoned discourse between...

Re: A Tale of Two Christianities--Christian Genesis, part 2

Who thought that? I'd appreciate references. Early Christians like Justin Martyr referred to the Logos as Reason, Word, things like that. Anyone calling it the sun? https://books.google.com/books?id=qA2vCwAAQBAJ&pg=PA202&lpg=PA202&dq=helios+as+logos&source=bl&ots=m1Ki-YGg5g&...

Re: A Tale of Two Christianities--Christian Genesis, part 2

No, I don't think you can infer that Pliny the Younger's Christians emphasized a solar theology./ The sun was Logos. Or, I should say, light comes from Logos. Meeting before dawn, as the sun rose, to sing hymns to Christ implies a solar Logos theology. You can read more about the solar nature of th...

Re: A Tale of Two Christianities--Christian Genesis, part 2

That is an interesting piece. One point of contention: arguing that since Pliny and Trajan appear unaware of the policies of Nero and his persecution of Christians is not suspicious, as the account of Nero's persecution of Christians is itself fraudulent. Lucian's work is a satire. Sandy foundation....
