Re: From preachers to writers or viceversa?
Good question. I'm not trying to stifle the discussion or to settle the question, but five arguments traditionally made include: 1) Reference to Papias, the "living voice," and inquiring after the words of the apostles, as quoted by Eusebius, Ecclesiastical History 3.39.1-7. 2) Reference t...

This isn't really demonstrative for the matter in question.Stephan Huller wrote:(a) man is said to be made after the "image of God" and (b) a god of some sort is walking in the garden as a man

Re: Book - Parables of Enoch: A Paradigm Shift
The term "paradigm shift" seems to refer to a shift from thinking of it as a Christian composition to thinking of it as a Jewish one authored in circles that did not include any sects that stored mss in the caves of Qumran. However, the editors seem a bit too gleeful about this, making me...

Re: The Pentateuch Written According to Kabbalah
Hi Peter I don't remember the question. I am generally not interested in another text beside the Pentateuch and it certainly was written with a numerological subtext. Is the author doing more than being clever? Does he see these as "messianic" and see their reference as something other th...

Re: Ehrman v. Bob Price debate?
And Crossan does rank among the few with a wide impact (which tends to be surprising whenever it happens with these kinds of books, let alone a book that isn't deliberately written to sell copies to the masses), as has been widely recognized informally, especially in the early to late 90s. Let him ...

Thanks for the suggestion. It certainly would have relevant results for scholarship, being a well-known thorny problem.Mike Z wrote:I would suggest Hippolytus, but it is a rather daunting subject.

Re: Ehrman v. Bob Price debate?
Ehrman's gotta be a millionaire with his book royalties. Price probably needs the speaking fees just to keep the electricity on. Unless you are a very widely read scholar like J D Crossan, I heard that there is not really very much money in academic book sales, even when dum'ed down fo' us ever' da...

Re: Ehrman v. Bob Price debate?
I asked Ehrman on his blog/forum whether he was aware of Price's challenge and this was his response: http://ehrmanblog.org/debates-for-a-price-for-members/ . . . . From my point of view, though, I don’t do it for less because if I did so, I would be on the road every week giving talks everywhere, ...

Re: The Pentateuch Written According to Kabbalah
Why is that stranger and harder to believe? Please don't misinterpret me. I'm not saying that I know the original intent behind the words as written by the ancient author(s) of the Torah. I'm simply asking (Huller) for some clarification and, if possible, for any information relevant to the question.
