Re: About Jesus son of Ananus...

I wonder that a so great expert as you :notworthy: ignores Histories, 5.13 Book 5 is chock full of weird, twisted and highly prejudiced "facts" about Judeans and their beliefs. If he was relying on Josephus here, and this is has been questioned although on the face of it it appears so, Jo...

Re: Apollinari(u)s of Hierapolis on the gospel of Matthew.

In all the following cases the Lxx uses the Greek word μονοκέρωτος, noun genitive masculine singular common, from μονοκέρωτος, with but one horn. Apparently the word is used in Plutarch, "A story is told that once on a time the head of a one-horned ram (κριοῦ μονόκερω) was brought to Pericles f...

Re: About Jesus son of Ananus...

Could someone provide a reference to where Tacitus says that the Roman gods exited the Judean temple?

Re: About Jesus son of Ananus...

Already that I have introduced that passage from Josephus (and ignoring that grotesque Jesus ben Ananias), what do you think it's implied by these words: I suppose the account of it would seem to be a fable, were it not related by those that saw it, and were not the events that followed it of so co...

Re: Codex Sinaiticus - the white parchment Friderico-Augusta

Hi, ... The BL made a big point that the lighting cross-site was standardized, and used a color bar and all sorts of techie stuff. The BL acknowledged the difference, that is earlier in the thread. We just discovered, though, that they coloured the CFA pages in 2010, in the pricey book, apparently ...

Re: Codex Sinaiticus - the white parchment Friderico-Augusta

[ hopefully six of these sets should be a reasonable sample against which to test the claim that one or more of the copies held at one or more of four libraries are clever fakes, as evidenced by either whiteness of the skin (suggesting it is newer) or the excessive staining & discoloring (evide...

Re: Review of Gundry's Peter False Disciple according to GMa

I know its an old argument that no one pays much attention to any more but isn't it odd that Acts doesn't know anything about Paul's letters even though Paul is chiefly remembered for writing letters. It would be like writing a book about Jackie Robinson and failing to mention baseball. I've seen s...

They even have exactly the same stain. I noticed that too. I think the best thing to do is go through the quires and folios of Codex Sinaiticus at the web site and note where the location code changes, and look at the differences in the images just before and after the point where the code changed....

Re: Coloring the Truth: Sinaiticus

You might want to actually see the video before giving your ho-hum genetic fallacy response :). The video is by David W. Daniels, who works with Chick Publications, who has been looking closely at these issues. And has had a lot more insight than the textual expert-shmexperts, who have been so dens...

Re: About Jesus son of Ananus...

And αἰαὶ is a universal cry of despair. It doesn't mean 'poor.' It's just a sound you utter when bad things are about to happen. Jastrow mentions an Aramaic equivalent Lots of languages have an equivalent. Spanish has its famed ay ay ay , for instance, which the Urban Dictionary entertainingly defi...
