Re: How Did God Crucified Establish Civic Idealism?
The basic feature of any Gospel (from the first to the more recent) is the polemic against the others. This is complete nonsense again. Why do 'glad' or 'good tidings' necessitate hostility towards another group? Maybe that's how you look at the world but there's no evidence to suggest this. In fac...

Re: How Did God Crucified Establish Civic Idealism?
Even this early hymn: Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage; 7 rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. 8 And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself by b...

Re: How Did God Crucified Establish Civic Idealism?
We've provided you with two sources that acknowledge between them that Christians believed Jesus or Christ (a) came down from heaven doing the will of his Father/on a mission for his Father and that Jesus or Christ (b) was a slave to righteousness/ on a mission to crucify himself. Better than most a...

And Romans. The Greek word παραδίδωμι means to give over into the hands or power of someone else, to give something to keep to someone else, to deliver someone over into the custody of another. Lenski writes that it: always implies handing someone over to what he does not want. It has that force her...

Re: Why the young in the Empty Tomb had to be ''dressed in white''
A strong argument to connect the gnostics generally to Daniel is Irenaeus's testimony (Hippolytus's influence) that (a) they call themselves maskilim and (b) 'the white' from Daniel. Giuseppe is so fucking dumb.

Re: How Did God Crucified Establish Civic Idealism?
And if he's god he knows he's going to die when he comes down from heaven. I mean, I admit, Christians pretend like he can 'change his mind' about giving the law to Moses and humanity. But surely when he leaves his house in the morning he's not likely to forget he's gone to get milk. He doesn't get ...

How Did God Crucified Establish Civic Idealism?
Here's what Christianity comes down to for me - 1. God comes to earth and is crucified 2. Because of (1) the ideal 'kingdom' viz. the ideal republic is now spread out on the earth But why should (1) lead to (2)? I've never quite understood this. I've thought to myself that (1) may have been original...

Re: Mark 16 and the silence of the women: The disciples redeemed?
I've always found it curious that the author of Book 4 Against Marcion agrees with this. This is his point in writing the book - ie the Scriptures essentially are the DNA for the gospel. At times his arguments anticipate what later appear in Luke. The implication of his argument is that his opponent...

Re: Explaining the Term 'Apostolic'
See above. Matthew is a problem. There does appear to be an effort to put 'Matthew' into the gospel in Levi's place. But yes, you're right. Still interesting pattern.
