Re: Christian scribal practices indicate single common source
As a control, have you examined the presence of the Eusebian Canons in our Greek manuscripts of the gospels? Manuscripts before the fourth century do not have them, of course some fourth century manuscripts have them and some do not, and I believe that manuscripts that do not have them are rare afte...

Re: Matthean posteriority: Matthew 27:49 influenced by John 19:34??
Manuscript Evidence: While many manuscripts omit the addition in Matthew 27:49, some significant manuscripts, including ℵ (Codex Sinaiticus), B (Codex Vaticanus), C (Ephraemi Rescriptus), and others, do include it. These manuscripts are among the oldest and most respected witnesses to the New Testa...

Re: How to obtain the next article by Dave Allen
does anyone think this is a strong argument in the first place?: the Slavonic dropping Jesus’s name shows that it used a source that came from a Greek examplar before Eusebian tampering A clue to think so (= that this is a strong argument in the first place) is the Josephus's habit to not mention b...

Re: How to obtain the next article by Dave Allen
I realize this may sound harsh, but I'm not expecting Dave Allen's forthcoming paper in Revista Biblica 86 to contain any significantly different or better arguments than were contained in his previous papers. Allen published five papers on the Testimonium between 2020 and 2023. I think the fifth pa...

Re: How to obtain the next article by Dave Allen
I would assume that since Dave Allen's previous article on the Testimonium in the Argentinian journal Revista Biblica: Dave Allen, A Proposal: Three Redactional Layer Model for the Testimonium Flavianum, RevBib 85,(2023) 211-232 was published in volume 85 (2023), that the next article, in RevBib 86,...

Re: p.Oxy. 5575 discussion, zoom, today 12 noon edt
p. Oxy 5575 is a small fragment and small fragments don't generally have identifiable compositional and redactional characteristics because the sample size is too small for that. It seems to me that the fragment could be fit into a great many source theories where the larger source theory supplies t...

Re: reported: "Scholars Publish New Papyrus With Early Sayings of Jesus"
Are you claiming only that another theory can explain the evidence equally well as the theory that the author of P. Oxy 5575 primarily followed Luke 12 but conflated it with material from Matthew and Thomas, so we should not simply assume the latter theory. Or are you claiming that you have another...

Re: reported: "Scholars Publish New Papyrus With Early Sayings of Jesus"
All you're saying is the similarities the MS has with the canonical texts allowed it to be identified as related to them But the reconstructed text is different from the canonical text The question of whether this MS is a syncretic blending of Thomas, Luke and Matthew or an earlier version of Luke ...
