Re: Who wrote the NT?
They were people with enough free time, money, and literacy to obtain copies of the LXX and study it deeply, and had access to a Greek-style education to a certain degree, both of which put them in an elite category -- a far cry from the humble "pious tradents" that modern scholarship woul...

Re: The syncretistic origins of Christianity.
Your point would make sense only if Paul were the first Christian. Ex hypothesi , and in accordance with several statements from the epistles, he was not. Paul using (mainly) the LXX for his gentile converts no more disproves a Judean/Semitic origin for Christianity than Philo using the LXX for his...

Re: The syncretistic origins of Christianity.
The only positive argument I offer in this section for a primitive Judaic church is the epistles of Paul , and I am still very much in the middle of evaluating those epistles; who knows what I may eventually conclude? "The epistles of Paul" ... which are also in Greek, written by a person...

Re: The syncretistic origins of Christianity.
The point being that if Christianity's origins are to be associated with Jerusalem, then we would expect to find greater emphasis on Hebrew words and texts, not Greek ones. We cannot assume that because Jews in Alexandria were using the LXX, that Jews in Jerusalem were also. The argument would be mo...

Re: The syncretistic origins of Christianity.
Your list does not include Jerusalem, but I would definitely associate Jerusalem with the origins of Christianity, at least to the same extent that I associate Corinth or Philippi, and probably more. I have given reasons elsewhere (having found myself persuaded by Peter Kirby) for thinking that the...

Re: Where is the more strong evidence in Paul pointing to an outer space Jesus
For you, brothers and sisters, became imitators of God’s churches in Judea, which are in Christ Jesus: You suffered from your own people the same things those churches suffered from the Jews who killed the Lord Jesus and the prophets and also drove us out. They displease God and are hostile to ever...

Re: The chiastic structure of Mark 3.31-35.
If they wrote the texts in chiasms, why do all existing ancient examples have the text in prose? Doesn't that destroy the chiasm?
Nothing I've read on chiastic structures in Biblical texts ever addresses this, the most basic of questions.

Re: Carrier versus Hurtado about what there was in the mind of Philo
ἀρχάγγελον is a rare word in Philo, only appearing three times. It also appears in Quis Rerum Divinarum Heres (Who is the Heir of Divine Things?) 205."The Father who created the universe has given to his archangelic and most ancient Logos a pre-eminent gift..." Archangel = Logos. The third...
