Re: Who existed ? When ? Where ?

Why do you assume that they understood he lived at the same time as the Christian John the Baptist?

Re: Is the baptism (but not John) interpolated in Mark?

I was wrong about Theodotos but there is a list of those who mention this heresy here - https://books.google.com/books?id=MEuKcfOrIqQC&pg=PA296&lpg=PA296&dq=virgin+tube+water&source=bl&ots=Gt3SEQVkk3&sig=Zqf8IFlXKWbbA6cxuvL2dYyAVik&hl=en&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwiAucPf4MXW...

Re: Is the baptism (but not John) interpolated in Mark?

What I think Praxeas's doctrine most closely resembles is a heresy actually mentioned by Irenaeus: But, according to these men, neither was the Word made flesh, nor Christ, nor the Saviour (Soter), who was produced from [the joint contributions of] all [the Æons]. For they will have it, that the Wor...

Re: Is the baptism (but not John) interpolated in Mark?

And I have to go back over some of my observations from yesterday. When I said that the author couldn't have been Irenaeus I should have stated it doesn't seem likely that the author is Irenaeus because of his identification of the 'light' (Gen 1.3) created by God and Christ, the Son. I haven't seen...

Re: Is the baptism (but not John) interpolated in Mark?

Some more curiousities from Against Praxean. In the first chapter of the work Matthew and Luke are explicitly referenced as having the temptation narrative but not Mark: The serpent has forgotten himself: for when he tempted Jesus Christ after the baptism of John it was as Son of God that he attacke...

Re: Is the baptism (but not John) interpolated in Mark?

The conflict between Polycarp and Anicetus might well have been the first flashpoint of this controversy between Johannine and Markan traditions, between Jesus as the Christ and the Son and the idea that Jesus and Christ were two powers or related to the two powers tradition or perhaps an offshoot o...

Re: Is the baptism (but not John) interpolated in Mark?

But it is also worth noting that - admittedly from a very limited pool - Mark is always avoided when trying to combat the adoptionist/monarchian/Patripassian heresies. I think this casts doubt on the assumption that these later Patristic treatises might not be related to the adoptionist gospel (= Ma...
