Re: Philippian Hymn - no incarnation?

If there is no incarnation in view, and Jesus is just an ordinary man, what is the language about "having come to be in the likeness" of humans and "having been found in form as a human" about? Why not just "as a human" or some such? Well, first of all, I think I'm inc...

Philippian Hymn - no incarnation?

I think this is one possible reading of the hymn: Paul is only describing the earthly Jesus whom we know from the gospels. Not the pre-existent Jesus who was incarnated. I'm not saying that Paul didn't have a pre-existent Jesus (or Christ or whatever) or that he had, just that it's possible to read ...

Re: Reactions in gMark! What this Galilean prophet did will AMAZE you!!!

The reaction of the people in the story is evidently very important to Mark, One might even go so far as to say that the reaction of people in the story IS the story. There are about 100 distinguishable characters in Mark, 60 or so of them have speaking parts. Even those few characters who appear e...

Reactions in gMark! What this Galilean prophet did will AMAZE you!!!

Mark 1:22-29: And they came to Capernaum and as soon as the sabbath came Jesus immediately went into the synagogue and taught, and the people were ASTONISHED at his teaching! You won't believe what happened then! Immediately there came a man with an unclean spirit, and Jesus completely shut the spir...

Re: Mark 9:1 "seeing the kingdom having come in power"

What I hypothesise more generally is that the Christians of the NT thought their new race was more of a new species of humans. Or rather, that original immortal species described in Gen 1:26-26 ruling creation, before the Fall where the humans acquired their fleshly mortality and as such became a fl...

Re: Mark 9:1 "seeing the kingdom having come in power"

With regards to the question of "this generation", I was reading in Acts and saw this interesting bit in connection with the incident with the first conversions to faith ever, where Luke says something about conversion meaning "saved from this crooked generation". It's Pentecost...

Re: Is "blasphemy against the holy spirit" a Markan invention?

Define "hardly". My experience with this discussion has felt like something to the effect: 'I have a better explanation for the meaning of the text than your explanation, so I don't even need to know your explanation'. I can't escape thinking, that you are discarding any need to investiga...

Re: Is "blasphemy against the holy spirit" a Markan invention?

May I interrupt for a moment? I'm not even gonna go all Domitian 'n all that stuff. Doesn't get any traction here anyway. There's another verse (or 2) that figures into this: Mark 3: 29 - 30 (RSV): [29] but whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit never has forgiveness, but is guilty of an eterna...

Re: Is "blasphemy against the holy spirit" a Markan invention?

I don't think the bit in the Didache is 'an explanation after the fact'. Rather, I think it helps to back up my proposition, that there is an explanation to be found within gMark for the graveness, and that this explanation also applies perfectly to Did 11:7. What the scribes are doing is denying J...
