Re: Where is the more strong evidence in Paul pointing to an outer space Jesus

And no, demonic forces here do not exclude a human Jesus in Pauline thought. They could be the forces lurking behind human rulers. But Paul surely meant something here, and it would be lovely to have some clue as to what that was. :) Reluctant as I often am to get into debating individual instances...

Re: Where is the more strong evidence in Paul pointing to an outer space Jesus

I'm not sure whether this 'missing version of A of I' argument was Carrier's position from the beginning either,... I tend to think he may have shifted position at some time. Saying that there may have been a version of the A of I that would support his case is one thing, but saying that the A of I...

Re: 'Judas of Nazareth' by Daniel Unterbrink

Josephus has a story, a narrative, about a figure called Judas the Galilean. The jump from a figure in a narrative to historicity for that figure can't be made by special pleading....no blank cheques for gospel writers....or Josephus.. Ok. If you ever get to justifying saying there is no historical...

Re: Where is the more strong evidence in Paul pointing to an outer space Jesus

My main reason for having trouble with an exclusively non-earthly 'Jesus' is the collective number of different descriptions added together which appear to contradict it. Man. Killed by Jews. Hung on a tree. Died. Buried. Rose from the dead. Born of a woman. Born a Jew. Ate bread. Etc. Imo, challeng...

I've not seen any historical evidence for the Josephan figure of Judas the Galilean. If you have that historical evidence then why not present it.😁
It's in Josephus.

Re: Where is the more strong evidence in Paul pointing to an outer space Jesus

I think a significant factor and potential problem is Paul's texts may not have initially been about a Jesus or, if they were about a Jesus, or a Christ, they may not have been about the gospel Jesus. Yes, they are apparently about someone. :) We can only speculate. Personally, I am more convinced ...

Re: 'Judas of Nazareth' by Daniel Unterbrink

Basically, anywhere.... :) Historical artefacts, such as coins, are testimony to the fact that certain individuals were historical figures. That is the bare bones of historical evidence. However, history requires a story; a narrative, to joins up the facts and present a meaningful picture. The pict...

Re: Where is the more strong evidence in Paul pointing to an outer space Jesus

I'm not sure whether this 'missing version of A of I' argument was Carrier's position from the beginning either, but I think there are two versions of Ascension of Isaiah (at least), with one dated date later than the other. I understand a later-dated version might fit Carrier's argument better, bu...

Re: Where is the more strong evidence in Paul pointing to an outer space Jesus

I heard (read online) that Doherty, a few years ago, conceded (with caveats) that 'Jesus' may have been described as having come to earth in Ascension of Isaiah. Is this correct and do you have a link? Probably best to point you to Doherty's website, where he is responding to my review of his "...

Re: 'Judas of Nazareth' by Daniel Unterbrink

Research into early christian origins requires that Jewish history - as far as it can be ascertained - be the primary focus of research. Where would you go for that? Well...one could start by looking at the Hasmonean and Herodian coins......that way one could be pretty confident that one is dealing...
