Re: The Temptation Story in Mark is anti-marcionite
Marcion interpreted this verse to mean docetism : Jesus only appeared to be in the sinful flesh. No need of a Temptation Story because the divine Jesus was immunized a priori to it. I know that. I think everybody knows that.StephenGoranson wrote: ↑Thu Apr 18, 2024 8:40 am No, I mentioned Ben C. Smith as one indication why most scholars would not come or stay here.
Ben C. Smith, however, whom you seem to respect, had no relevant academic credentials (as you know).

The comment "And we can only answer this question by appealing to polemical concerns" is not well argued.

Hebrews is working out a concept of a perfect sacrifice, in order to provide an explanation of how Jesus replaced once and for all the use of sacrifices.

Re: Origen's interesting ideas
Origen was just talking about some who would object to explaining the secret and mystical things in the Gospel. in context: discussing The Parable of the Unforgiving Servant in Matthew 18 Immediately begins explaining a point here about the parable of the talents in Matthew // Luke, saying: "th...
